But long term+high cost... no thanks...

And the Habs get what may well be a steal at #33 (Collberg was predicted to go possibly as high as the top-10).

Plus a few other picks that I had actually managed to hear about before draft day, which is fairly exceptional for beyond-round-1 picks lol.

And of course there's Galchenyuk.

Good draft overall, at least given the quality of prospects available.

Schenn for van Riemsdyk is robbery. Leafs win that trade.

They said they're not done too.

Wonder what's next.

This year's Hockey Hall of Fame inductees:

Joe Sakic
Mats Sundin
Adam Oates
Pavel Bure

I must say I am somewhat surprised that Brendan Shanahan didn't get in.

I'm still trying to figure out why my Flyers traded one of their goalies, then chose a center in the draft, instead of one of the rookie goalies. Maybe they're looking into either another trade or a free agent.

I suspect they want to sign Luongo as well.

I suspect the site slowdown has a lot to do with it.

And suddenly, just like that, Minnesota is a genuine contender.

This is great news, I am kind of shocked they pulled this off.

Last season the Wild were a decent team when Koivu and Bouchard were healthy. The problem was that when people went down they didn't have the depth to replace them. As the season went on the team was hit by a huge and flukey wave of injuries that they couldn't recover from. The additions of Parise and Suter are obviously big but the other important factor is that they have a number of good young players who will be in the AHL next year (besides Granlund who will probably make the team). Next season when people get injured they can be replaced with high quality prospects rather than career AHLers.

We'll see. Throwing large sums of money at big names doesn't always work out as planned. The Rangers have had a history of doing that and it not working out.

The Wild also have one of the best prospect pools in the NHL right now. A core of quality veterans plus a bunch of really good but cheap young players is how you build a contender. That is the team the Wild are going to have in two to three years. They added a couple of veteran stars because those were the pieces the team was missing, the rest of the team has been built organically.

Right now I am just happy they have a good shot at the playoffs, the last few seasons have been rough to watch.

Well, we wanted drama, here's capital-D Drama

Philadelphia just dropped a fourteen years, 100 millions offer sheet on one mr. Weber, Shea. (That's two first round draft picks, one second, one third to Nashville if they don't match).

Holy crap.

The NHL really needs to put an end to these ridiculous length contracts. Five years should really be the max.
