Abandon City -- does it give you a reputation hit?

I know if you raze cities it's a reputation hit and other civs get mad at you (especially the civ whose city you just razed)

But what about if you abandon a city? Is it considered killing your own people, and worthy of a reputation hit? I remember in SMAC if you razed your own cities it was genocide.

If it's NOT a reputation hit, does this mean during a war you can capture cities and then "Abandon City" a few turns later to avoid getting the bad reputation that razing will get you? And "cheat the system" so to speak..?

Actually, I didn't see it answered in that link. (Kudos, BamSpeedy) When I asked Soren (the AI programmer) about it previously, he said if the majority of people are of your nationality there is no effect, if there are more of any other nationality than yours it is the same as razing.

That makes pretty good sense... It would make even more sense though if it made people in your other cities unhappy...

If it's my own city i want to get rid of, i just cut the food and make workers, or if i could do with the pop somewhere else, make settlers and join them to an existing city. AFAIK, it doesn't effect ur rep if it's ur own.

Disbanding a city gives no attitude hit if there are no foreigners in the city.

Good to know. Lately I haven't been razing but abandoning because of the rep hit. Back to razing now Free workers and saves the unhapiness jumping to other cities.

While that is technically true, it would be more accurate to say that disbanding a city gives no attitude hit so long as your citizens make up the majority (I think...see below) of the population of the city. Therefore, you can in fact disband a city with foreigners and not suffer a hit to your rep.

Now, I have my own question I'd like to add to this thread...If you want to disband a city without suffering a rep hit, does the city have to comprise of at least 50% from your civilization or is it 51%? That is to say, if you had a size 2 city with 1 foreign citizen and 1 citizen from your civ, would you get a rep hit by abandoning it?
