HELP: For Advanced Players
I am looking for players who are successful on Monarch and above difficulty levels.
I have been playing on Monarch level for some time and have had a range of different success. I have won a very few games, but mostly I do not. I am still one of the successful Civs in the game but eaither lose due to space race or domination. What are some pointers that I can use that will help me win on Monarchy more regulary?? i have tried harder levels but do not prove a threat to the game to win. I beleieve that I do already have ther basics down to win games. What i am looking for is a good number of ideas to assimlate to my game style that will help take me to the next level. |

As Seraiel wrote, your better off posting a save, or at least screenshots. Though a couple of things spring to mind,
Make sure early cities are settled to become useful quickly, this means with food in the inner ring (or borrowed from capital) unless your using a Creative leader, and improe strong ties ASAP. Get used to GPP generation, you want a GP farm early enough to get at least 1 GP (probably a GS) by 1AD without the Phi trait. It doesn't ned to be your future primary GP farm, in fact its often the capital running 2 scientists for a while, but it makes a big difference when you get an academy or early bulb in. Get comfortable with quickly putting out an up to date army, several typical ways of doing this being the whip, drafting (Globe helps a lot here!), rushbuy and mass spamming workshops, and all of these methods appear around the Renaissance. Each method its own traits, like drafting can lead to huge armies very quickly and at relatively low costs (30 rifles in 10 turns on normal without even counting normal production? Bargain) but leads to a lot of , whipping is more widespread though less efficient (but still stong), both requiring lots of food, rushbuy works well with cottage spaming as its production multipliers (banks/market/grocer) are available early (cmpared to factories/coal plants), while workshops become strong with Caste and Chemistry.Another possibility is prebuilding an army and upgrading, i.e. massing Trebs to tun into Cannons when you get Steel, or HA/Knights for Cuirassiers. Dont be afraid of letting your science slider drop considerably during the early game, even at 0% you can tech respectably using scientists and building Research, and once you get Currency building Wealth is even more effective. |

Best advice i could give you with nothing to go on is don't expand too quickly or just expand the good city spots preferably blocking future spots once your economy starts rolling. Don't worry about working on early religion techs you can just take holy cities later. Start out with worker techs whichever is most important in your cross, elephants research hunting, corn, rice, wheat research agriculture, gold silver research mining and etc.... To get settlers out faster research bronze working and cut down forests around the capitol. More workers you have faster you can improve. For gold cottage on river grassland or flooded plains. Trade once you get alphabet or AI does that is most important part because you can get behind rather quick. With religion i prefer not to choose any unless the majority of AI has a certain one but if the most powerful AI has a solo religion i would not choose any unless asked to convert but then switch out after 10 turns.
