Rugby Super 12

It has been halfway through the comp now, and seen there are a few Kiwi's and Australians here now, i'll start this thread.

top 4 teams are all NZ sides (go the Hurricanes!)

The Reds have just begun thier long journey up by beating the Warratahs (again). ACT have just been thrashed by the Blues.

Next round features all the Aussie teams at home against Kiwi sides... could be interesting.

Anyone else watching?

Hmmm...wonder how popular this thread will be.

Anyway, good to see the Hurricanes had a win on the weeke.d It's the first time they've had four wins in a row but they haven't beaten any really good teams yet. Hopefully they can scratch into the semis this year.

Oh, and don't let my profile fool you. I'm still a 'canes boy at heart. I'm just studying in Chch.

I think the only Aussie team that will make the finals is ACT with the other 2 just missing out. Canterbury v Auckland in the final and Otago the other smi finalist.

How bad are the SA teams going the only thing saving them from complete embarrassment is poor seasons from Qld and Waikato.

I think this week winners will be Otago, Qld, Canterbury, Stormers and ACT.

I'm a bit disillusioned with NSW losing to QLD again. It's looking like Kiwi teams will dominate the semis this year, something we're now accustomed to. But if like 99 where a Kiwi team wins the Super 12 and Australia wins the World Cup, then I'll be happy with that

I think they should all be shot.

How could we lose to the worst team to ever put on a Super12 jumper...

The Kiwi teams are lookin the goods, who does NSW play this weekend?

NSW plays the Crusaders this week, along with the Reds vs. Hurricanes and ACT vs. Chiefs.

I'll say Canterbury over NSW, despite them being at home, ACT should easily beat the Chiefs, and the Hurricanes to win against the Reds (well... heres hoping )

If i was in charge, I'd quite happily forfeit the Super 12 right here and now to get my hands on the World Cup!!

I saw England won the Six Nations over the weekend. By the sounds of it, all the Engliash press and team thinks the World Cup is their's. They're gonna be shocked when they come down here to the Southern Hemisphere in Oct/Nov.

I can't see NSW getting within coo-ee of the Crusaders on the weekend. Even in Sydney. Just how good are the Blues at the moment ?

Unfortunately you are right. It hurts me to say this but the Waratah's aren't much of a chance... I just hope Blacklock gets all that butter of his hands before the weekend!

Six Nations, who gives a toss about Six Nations. If England didn't have Wilkinson they would get beaten by Burkina Faso. But they do have him, and they will be a tough side to beat, unless it rains. I don't think they have the backs to go toe to toe with the Kiwis. I'm not too sure about the Wallabies at the moment though...

The Six Nations was purely designed to give England a chance to win something. It's the only sporting achievement of note England have to my recollection.

That was a pretty bad mistake by Blacklock on the weekend. And, worse of all, it was Wendell I think who scored of it. Ugh. How bad does it get ?

The English always get their hopes up after beating/drawing to a couple of good teams once. never mind its the end of season tour and that they still only just managed not to lose on their own soil.

I don't rate them at all when they come downunder.

I've had a change of heart... I reckon the NSW boys are a show this weekend. This is the first away trip for the Christchurch boys isn't it? that has count for something *clutches at straws*

If we can keep Carter and Ralph quite, and have Mehrten's 'rubbed out' then the Waratah's are a real show. Matty Rogers will score two meat pies and the tah's will prevail!!

Merthens looks in doubt at the moment as well as Norm Maxwell. But after that tough win at the House of Pain, i think they're hitting their straps and will be too much for NSW.

But you can never count Australian teams out of anything these days...

I think the Crusaders will be too strong, too experienced and just too good for the Waratah's this weeken, Bose. 'Canes to beat the Reds as well with a back-to-his-brilliant-best Cullen to score a couple.

Elsewhere, the blues look set to lose their first game of the season with Rupeni Caucauinbuca in doubt.

Seriously, the should beat the Highlabnders now that they have lost the 'brook invincibility mindset.

Stormers to beat the blues and the Cheifs to win in an upset over the upset Brumbies.

So just to confirm:
BLUES v Highlanders
HURRICANES v Reds
CRUSADERS v Waratahs
STORMERS v Bulls
CHIEFS v Brumbies

I'd have to agree with your picks lord_byron, except for the Chiefs. I think ACT will be much too strong, but i guess i just don't have much faith in the Chiefs anymore!!

I'll pick the Highlanders just for my abhorrence for anything to do with Auckland . But should be a close game none the less.

HIGHLANDERS vs Blues

HURRICANES vs Reds

CRUSADERS vs Waratahs

STORMERS vs Bulls

BRUMBIES vs Chiefs

Lets make it interesting then Lord_Byron... how about 5 hypothetical kiwi dollars (about AU$1.17)? Anyone else up for losing some hypothetical money? I've got H$5 for anyone that wants to go against the Waratahs!

NZ$5 equals almost AUS $4.80 these days... i thought i would make a nice little sum when i go home for a holiday this year, but not anymore.

Anyway, i'll definately hypothetically wager $5 on Canterbury against the Warratahs.

I knew it would be betwwen $4.50-$5, but i can't pass up a chance to take the pi$s... i'm sure you wouldn't either! Any other takers?

I heard this morning that the Christchurch boys beat us 96-16 last year. That doesn't exactly instill me with confidence...
