First off, I apologize for my horribly, horribly poor formatting, but part of the idea here is to give out as little information as possible in advance.

This game will be a sort of "resurrected Earth" idea, where we'll be (here) building up a world with a different set-up than Earth, but attempting to ignore the technological differences to a degree. From this set-up, we will (elsewhere) begin playing a game, where you won't be quite so oblivious to the mechanics.

Spoiler Sign-up :
To create a nation, please supply the following:
A capital city (marked on the map, please)
A name
A color (please pick from the grid in the lower-left)

Then, please select the following from the lists:
A form of government (only one, required)
An economic policy (only one, required, please check prerequisites)
Social policies (optional, please check prerequisites)
Foreign policies (at least one, please check prerequisites)
A domestic policy (optional, please check prerequisites)

Lastly, write up a history/bio for your nation, explaining your culture, history, internal problems, etc.
This will be extremely important, as your nation will recieve national attributes & factions with their own factional attributes based off of this
Worry-free nations will recieve GM-generated problems, so please be fair to yourself here.

Some basic guidelines:
No meta, harassment, etc. In addition, anything that's OOC should be clearly marked as such, or, preferably, kept out of the game thread.
Don't create a politically-motivated nation (IE, you cannot make a nation to spread a political belief/argument)
All nations must fit the backstory of the game - no fantasy nations, sci-fi empires, or resurrected Byzantines)
Please remember to keep it fun, and avoid trolling or other (OOC) conflict - this is a game, after all

Spoiler Worldbuilding Basics :
To start, I should explain the world of this game - it's not quite fresh-start, nor is it quite a pre-set map.
To begin, place your capital city.

I would like to take this moment, and ask you to look at the map.
It has Antarctica.
Do not put a city on Antarctica. I will not accept it. We'll deal with it later.

Anyways, so, armed with your capital and sign-up, you're ready to forge your empire!
In a sense, that is.
You don't see any armies. You don't see navies, air forces (does this game have airforces?), economies, or any other mechanics, for that matter.
Don't worry about that now. All will become clear in time.
What happens now is interesting - you will recieve an RNG-generated number of cities to place on the map each "turn" of our world-building session.

Please use your head. If you don't have a port, you can't put them across the ocean. It's also a bad idea to march your nation across a continent, unless you intend to hold and claim the Sahara, for whatever reason.

Diplomacy, for now, is largely talk. If you want to start a war, RP it, and I'll handle it through my magical back-doors.

Keep in mind that you aren't omnipotent. As GM, I reserve the right to splinter off revolting nations, overthrow your government (change policies/factions/forms), or create NPCs.
All in the name of worldbuilding and balance - don't worry, you won't be behind when the game actually starts.

After the world has advanced enough, I'll start a new thread, and begin the game proper.

Now that you're dealt with that, a brief explanation of why you don't see the mechanics - I'm running the world-building on a shell of the numbers, partially to handle it, and partially to see how players adapt the world, so I can tell if I need additional (or have redundant) systems. If you're more interested in how the final game will run, feel free to VM/PM me specific questions.

TL;DR:
Pick a city, some government-y stuff, and pray that RNG likes your RP. You're redrawing the world.

Claiming the Middle East, the Suez Canal and up to Turkey as well as control of the Bosporus. Arabia would be a plus if we can get it.

If I can still claim more land, then taking Egypt and over to Tunisia and the Balkans.

Doesn't work that way. Place a capital city on the map.

Name: The Trade Federation of the Atlantic.
Location: Boston
Plutocracy
Capitalism
Interventionism, Imperialism

Bio: The TF of the A is, in a word, a holdout. The names itself is a relic, harkening back to the days when trade abounded and simply controlling key routes meant immeasurable wealth. And the policies are ancient, based around the control of the rich over the weak poor. But times are changing, and far too quickly for the dated superpower. Once the primary force in its region, the Federation still possesses a massive military and arguably the best fleet in the world. But its army is made up of impoverished soldiers chafing under the rich, its boats staffed by penniless sailors and its planes flown by poor pilots. The poor, in truth, hold the power.

But they do not know it. Many are hoping to change that, urging the slum rats to raise their extensive forces against the rich overlords.

They do not obey. A few have even started rebellions, calling upon the legion to join the crusade against the few.

They do not answer. The poor are oppressed, conditioned to fear each other and hate themselves, and most of all respect the rich, who live luxuriously in their sky rises as the sleeping army of the downtrodden toil in silence.

It cannot last.

_____________

To understand how this came about, one must only examine the TFA's recent history. Little over two centuries ago, rich merchants overthrew the ineffective democracy, forming an oligarchy of the wealthy. Asserting power through withholding education from most, they destroyed rebellions and murdered agitators. Then, a shift in the world order came. Trade fell out of focus, and the corporation came to the forefront. The rulers adapted, starting megacorps, ruling once more through money.

Now, however, a middle class is appearing. They run small businesses, undercutting the monopolies and serving to the poor with great service. The power is falling from the plutocrats.

And when it is gone, the nation will explode.

Just to clear something up, is this set in the modern times or ancient times?

Modern technology levels, though it's technically either an alternate history or a post-restored society. Which it'll be will depend a bit on how I think the history seems to fit better, after sign-ups are put in.

Definitely interested, but i currently have very limited internet capacity off my phone, so i will be unable to post a proper application until Sunday at least.

Well, updates to it would be fine, but I'll accept descriptions without maps, so long as I have a rough location for the capital described.

Kingdom of Cyprus

Capital city: Nicosia
Color: purple
Government: Constitutional Monarchy
Economic policy: Socialism
Social policy: Liberalism
Foreign policy: Isolationism

Nicosia, unknown year.

the Cypriot government collapsed, due to insurrections by Turkish Cypriots, when they murdered the Senate, and president, and just about everyone else involved in the government. the island decided into a civil war of Greeks versus Turkish.

the greeks won. but it took a long time for them to completely eradicate the Turkish culture, in a peaceful manner. soon the usual infighting occurred and the island returned to tribalism.

but now, hundreds of years later, with the island under a form of tribal leadership. Nicosia, the largest and strongest of the city states, proclaimed itself to be a kingdom of Cyprus, under the Rule of Alexis I Laskaris. he will soon conquer all of Cyprus, which includes the other states of Famagusta, Limassol, Kyrina, and Strovolos, among others.

King Alexis has said that after the island is unified, they will adopt a peaceful, isolationist foreign policy.

I can't see the map on iPad. Otherwise, I would love to join.

It's a map of the Earth, if you can do a write-up and describe the location, I'll accept it.

RNG gave me this.

Kratocracy
imperialism
expansionism
fundie
capitalist
authoritarianism
egalitarianism

Will actually fill in things later.

Also, because I hate myself, I claim Egypt and gold.

The Pentarchy of Manchester
Capital: Manchester

Then, please select the following from the lists:
Government: Pentarchy (modified Diarchy, described below)
Economic Policy: Capitalism
Social Policies: Nationalism

History:
Britain was never truly unified, no matter what force held the island together. The Romans, the Saxons, even the British themselves could never keep every region under control. If one was pleased with a decision, another was outraged at it. With an outbreak of an extremely deadly strain of influenza, plus a shortage of precious resources, and with no help at all from climate change, Britain did not take long to shatter during the Collapse. Cities went to war with cities, and even themselves in some cases, and where once rivalries were joked about and settled with games, the rivalries were soon rekindled with lead and blood. In the city of Manchester, five prominent families - the Gibsons, the Smythes, the Thompsetts, the Royles, and the Allens - unified the city under their rule, as a pentarchy. The populace accepted the heads of these five families as their leaders (these families being well-known, and extremely well-respected), and for a brief time Manchester had peace again. However, it did not take long for there to be people opposed to an autocratic system, and the cities of Britain that survived the Collapse certainly posed a threat. The dissenters either continued protesting or fled to more democratic cities in Britain, both of these causing problems in the economy.

Boom.

WAIT DID I JUST JOIN A NES

CIVO YOU BETRAYED ME

Also my capital is probably Cairo.

Well, here goes nothing...

New Republic of Venice

Capital: Venice
Government: Representative Democracy (sort of). The people elect the Council of Ten, and the Council of Ten elect the Doge, who holds some (but not a lot) of power.
Economic Policy: Socialism
Social Polocy: Egalitarianism*
Foreign Policy: Isolationism*

History: After Italy crumbled from a nation into nothing, Venice, like many other states, declared itself independent as a dictatorship. Originally, it just stuck to Venice and the surrounding areas, but then, when a massive bioengineered plague was released a few hundred years later, the engineers of the dictatorship suggested the destruction of the one road that led to Venice, and the dictator gave the orders for that. After that, nobody died if the plague, nobody was allowed in, and Venice became self-sufficient on the city island alone, fishing and growing rooftop farms in what little space was available. In that way, Venice survived that way for half a century, until the old dictator died. By then, roughly 300 years had passed when the new dictator, the son of the old dictator, became more tyrannical and cruel. While the old dictator had been authoritarian, he had not been cruel or evil, and his son was both. The Venetian people, in this troubled time, looked back to the glorious days when Venice was a mighty empire, and thus, the people overthrew the dictator, and the New Republic of Venice was born. The Venetian navy is strong, but the army and Air Force are mediocre. The economy is relatively strong, but the biggest problem with the nation is a political split in the direction of the new nation. Around half of the people believe that in order to make Venice a great nation, militaristic expansion is necessary, both in Italy and overseas, and the economy should be based around manufacturing and raw materials. The other half wish for Venice to be more peaceful and not expansionist, focusing on culture and science, and believe that the economy should be based around tourism and services.

I hope this isn't considered a "revived Byzantines", because IRL Italy is very much fragmented into different regions and cultures rather than unified in Italian nationalism. If you want me to, I can change this a lot. I just hope I didn't screw up, this is my first NES.

Greek Empire:

Spoiler :

Capital: Constantinople
Government: Dictatorship
Economic Policy: Military-Industrialism
Social Policy: Nationalism, Militarism, Fundamentalism
Foreign Policy: Authoritarianism

History: The Greek Empire was created when Turkey, led by a Kemalist dictatorship, that in order to win domestic support it needed military victories, decided to invade the Agean Islands. A coalition of Greek, British and Bulgarian Forces pushed the Turks back to Ankara. However, the Turks did not surrender and in the occupied areas huge revolts begun. The Turks, thanks to revolutions and suicide bombers, managed to force a stalemate and refused to make any peace. After 3 years, the stalemate was broken, Ankara was taken and the Byzantine Empire was re-created.

It all looked well, but what the Greeks had not considered was the popular resistance of the Turkish people. After more than 10 years of fighting rebels and losing 50,000 Greek troops, the Golden Dawn was elected, with the platform of ending the Turkish revolution. Golden Dawn indeed managed to end the revolution, by begining the holocaust of all Turks.

UN forces of 38 nations, led by the USA, decided to intervene to stop the new holocaust. Greece managed to fight the UN to a stalemate for more than 7 months, but it could not resist the might of the UN any longer. Turkish Rebel Groups managed to take control of Minor Asia and the UN forces control of Greece.

In Constantinople, Mihaloliakos, leader of the Golden Dawn, wanted to fight to the last man, but Commander Christophoros couped him, made peace with both Turks and NATO and established the Greek Empire, which is under his absolute rule.

Resurrected Byzantines were given in the rules as an example of something not to do...

Anyways, a request to stop mentioning contemporary nations as responsible for collapsing into/warring with yours, since this is supposed to be a sort of return after the fact...
