How to keep track of your cities

I was having hard time remembering where my new cities where once i got above 15 or so. I wanted to send extra workers and military units to these, so they could concentrate on cultural improvements right off the bat instead of building their own protection and work force.

The go-to button lists cities in alpabetically. So name your cities in reverse alphabetical order from start. That way, when you make a new city - you can autmotically start them on a Library or Temple and when another city builds a worker or unit, just hit the go-to button and send them to the first city on the list.

I could see how that might be useful on tiny maps, but there's not enough letters to do that when I'm aiming for 512.

Ha - that's where you are wrong!

When you get down to "A" start over with this convention:

'zero
'xedia
'yor
'warden

The single quote will come first and keep the convention going. You can also try other special symbols or double your quotes if you flip the alphabet again.

Why on earth are you guys trying to use the stupid 'go to' command???

Just look at the map! It's right there in front of you!

You can zoom out and back with the Z key. You can also add the line 'KeepRes=1' in civilization.ini or ptw.ini to keep your screen resolution when you start the game (instead of it changing to 800x600).

The 'Z' command isn't very helpful in later stages of the game for me. I like huge maps, and my core cities are cranking out units rapidly that I want to railroad half the map away, so the 'Go To' command is very useful at times.

However, I didn't know about the resolution trick in the .ini file. I'll have to try that! Question though: does that just affect my install? Or would that also affect the .SAV files? I'm just wondering if it would affect anyone who loaded my game, although I doubt it I just want to make sure...

superslug,

The entries in the ini files only effect the way the game is displayed on your PC.

Personally I run in 1600x1200, and the difference is amazing. I wonder how anyone can play the game in 800x600 res. Even 1024x768 is a huge difference.
