My current game is playing really fast on a p-2 666 (old) with my new idea. I limit the ai to 11 cities with 40 extra free units (dyp mod) which they get at the start. They cant build settlers until the last advance in the game.
I lost the game before this way after I was attacked by Egypt because they out number you for along time on units but Im finding around 12 goodie huts a game because of all the extra land. I also crank up the culture points to let everyone gain territory this way but I dont do culture victories. I charge myself 1 extra gold per unit (i use democracy which they loath) and I keep their corruption to min. (all their govts) so they have strong cities...... Its a blast and fast turns and you can do extra modding as I have only listed a few here......dread

True, I enjoy small, more strategic games. Some people enjoy 200 cities empires, however.
You can set all terrains unsettable but grassland and flood plain . Reduce food, increase consumption to 3 per citizen... It makes a real earth map very realistic. No cities on Sahara, please.
