I just started playing Civ3 again and I have a quick question. With barbarian villiages, how is it determined if they produce horsemen or not? It seems about half do and half just produce warriors. Do they need to be near a special resource like horses or iron? Does anybody know?

In my games they all produce horsemen if you just leave them alone and don't destroy them. Usually first comes a warrior and after a while comes horsemen. I have PTW. I don't know does it have any difference.

it seems the barbs make their own horses and each time u enter a new age like morden time they come at u with like 7-10 horsemen. I lost production of a libary because my outter ring was defended very lightly

@general_kill: Barbarian Uprisings occur after 2 Civs enter each new age.
And once two civs know horseback riding, Barb camps can spawn horsemen.

Question:
Is this hard-Coded? Or is it possible to edit Barbarians? Do stuff like "When 2 civs descover it" or Let it build other units Anything like that? Thanks

I think in the editor you can change the primary, warrior, defending unit, and the secondary, horseman offensive unit, units under the barbarians. Strider's barb flood had tanks and modern armor so that's where I found out. Though the two civs enter age I don't know how to change that

ONce there are two civ's that discover horseback riding the barbs get it too
I'ts a good way to check and see where your AI friends are at as far as techs I always start trading when I see the barbs on horsemen
