no wonders ever finish building...
Does anyone know what is going on? One of the great wonders (dont remember which one) switch to building cavalry almost 14 turns before its finished. ok. then i start on another great wonder and THAT stops building after a number of rounds...what happened?

Well... its probably either one of two things... Either someone else already built the wonder and you didn't notice the message or you have a city governor running the show. Can't tell without a save file or more info.

If other civs are finishing the wonders before you, you should get a pop-up message telling you. City governors do some inexplicable things, so unless you're missing the pop-ups when they occur, I imagine it's the Governors' doing this to you.

the city governors do that to me?!?! I never wanted to bother with civil disorder and there they go changing my production. Are you people saying that there can only be one wonder over the whole map...if the Egyptians have it then the Greeks cant?

Since you didn't know that Great Wonders can only be build once on the map, I'm guessing that was the issue. Someone else finished the wonder, and your governor switched over the shields to something else.
I've never known a governor to switch a valid build before it's finished, not that I've used them much. Renata

You should get a pop-up telling you the Wonder was completed by one of the other civs (although, there might be an option under preferences that would turn this off ... ) I think you get about 1 turn to modify the production yourself; if you don't, then the production is changed (I think) to another wonder if one is available, or the most expensive item otherwise. (For me, this has usually been a city improvement; I have occasionally built very expensive colliseums.)

Depending on your patch/version (I think) you should be able to contact the governor of your capitol city. You can set it for manage moods, but NEVER production in ALL cities. That should give you what you want.

You can contact the governor of any city in PTW by right-clicking on the city and choosing contact governor. There's also a button on the city screen itself - a little square thingamabob next to the hurry production button, which is just above the food box. One of these options was not available in regular CIV3, if I remember correctly, but I can't remember which.
In order to build the war academy (or the heroic epic) you must first have a victorious army. So what you need to do is: first, build some barracks and get some veteran units. Next, go knock some AI heads until these units start getting promoted to elite. Next continue knocking heads with the elite units (preferably saving them for the easy battles in order to preserve them as long as possible) until you get a Great Leader. Bring that great leader back to one of your cities and look for the action button that says 'make army' (it'll be one of the gray buttons in the middle of the screen when your leader is active). Click on that. You now have an army, but it's empty; it can't fight. Bring some of your military units to the same square as the army and hit the 'load' button (or click 'L'). Once your army is full (it'll take up to 3 units), take it out in the field and go knock some more AI heads with it. When it wins a battle, on the next turn you'll get the ability to build war academy and heroic epic. Piece of cake, eh? ![]() Renata

The only thing I let the governor do is manage the citizens, ya know - happiness/what tile they work. NEVER, EVER let the governor build something automatically for you. You will end up with coal plants after the hoover dam has been built, and swordsmen will march along with your modern armor. Many times, I will change the governor's 'suggestion' possibilities to only include buildings, so I have to actually confirm any new units being created.
