Wondering if there are any others out there like myself. I'm a much better Civ3 player than I was a Civ2 player. I think it has a lot to do w/ sites like CFC. I never surfed the web for strategies/techniques for Civ2 like I did for Civ3. The hardest level I won in Civ2 was Prince, in Civ3 its Emperor.
What's been your experience and why?

This is a strange question that I could have answered either way. I am sure that I am playing Civ3 to a much higher standard of planning / decision-making etc than I ever did when I was playing Civ2, but on the other hand I won many times on Diety level at Civ2. The highest level I've won at on Civ3 is Monarch.
At first I was sooo bad at Civ3, having not really thought about how to play the game differently. The last 6 months have seen me thinking hard, planning and making even what seem like the tiniest decisions count. But I'm still a low-grade player at Civ3 compared to most here. I know. GOTMs and QSCs have shown me that. I reckon that if I went back to Civ2 and applied the same depth of thought that I use today to that game, I would be much better than I ever was. Civ2 in my opinion was a much easier game to do well at, but that wasn't obvious until I'd played Civ3 badly. |

![]() I can thank CFC for my being a better Civ3 player. (And to a lesser extent, Apolyton; after all, it was a link at Poly that brought me here! ) The strategy threads, the Succession Games, all the discussion, has all helped me to improve my game.

Yes, because I didn't come to CFC yet, when I was a Civ2 player. CFC gave me a few tips that got me out of the lower levels of civ3. That's something I didn't do with Civ2 or Civ1.

I played few times Civ2, not in my home, just to see what it is. Did not like it so to install at my computer. Civ3 is a greate in comparison to Civ2, human intellect here has so many points to apply!

I find that I am about even. But I think I have more potential with Civ3 because of CFC.

Never have played.
And since they are so different (read about hardcore civ2ers who couldn't the difference) I'm wondering even if I should buy Civ2. I would have to "unlearn" civ3 and if I wanted to go back, I would have to "unlearn" civ2. |

Civ2 was simple, Civ3 is far more difficult.
I don't doubt I'm a better Civ3 player, but that the difficulty of Civ3 hides that fact whilst with Civ2 it was easy to excel.

Civ3. That cheat menu in Civ2 screwed me up. Plus I didn't have the advantage of CFC during my Civ2 days.
Edit: Oddly enough, Civ3 has made me a better Civ2 player, when I take the time to play Civ2. Weird, huh? |

I loved civ 2, and beat it on deity with raging hordes alot, (if I could get started).
Also, I modded civ II alot, which teaches alot about AI behavior. Civ III I still have a lot of trouble on Emporer, allthough sometimes I think it is because I make too many stupid moves out of a desire for war or Empire, as opposed to my first games where I played the patient builder and did quite well.... |

I simply haven't had the time for Civ3 I spent on its predecessor.
The Civ3 AI feels more realistic, and that tempts me to view it as an unpredictable thing of the real world (which is fun), rather than a dumb program to be coaxed and exploited like the Civ2 AI. So, I'm enjoying my unsophisticated games of Civ3, and don't look forward to mastery, and the loss of suspense. |

I think the reason I'm better at 3 than 2 is that I am so much more absorbed by 3. There's just something funny about toying with the French for a few millenia and then nuking the hello out of them just to make Joan's bald head make sense from supposed radiation poisoning!

Civ2 was too easy even at Deity. In the end, I only played OCC games, and that got boring, too.
