After GenghisK told me that you play chess here, I wondered how do you play it? You just write down what your move is...and then?

Hi Kira.
It's like "correspondence chess". Two people agree to play each other and they create a new topic. One person writes down their first move and posts it to topic. The second person looks at that move and posts a reply. And it goes on until there is a result. People sometimes take a few days to reply! A whole game may take weeks. It's quite slow but it does mean that you can set up the position on a board and move the pieces around until you find the move you like. Check out some of the topics here and play them on a board. ------------------ <IMG SRC="http://www.anglo-saxon.demon.co.uk/stormerne/stormerne.gif" border=0> |

Mmm, sounds really like an unrefusable (does this word exist?
) invitation. Well, Kira, I'm in. It's up to you. Opening move is yours, miss.------------------ Genghis K. |

![]() ![]() Well, you sunk my battleship. My turn now. E6-C4-Z443 Sorry, just kidding.Sometimes you're not obliged to put the name of the unit, nor its starting position. It's especially true for pawns. If you type e6, everybody can be sure it's the pawn. Sometimes it's amibiguous so you must clearly state which one you are moving. But you'll see that when you play. Or just look at the other games. I'm not good enough myself to give you lessons... Anyway. Ooops! I've just noticed that you can't play that! If you begin, you're the white and it's 1. e3 or e4 Same player, shoot again Come on try again Kira.------------------ Genghis K. |

That's not necessary Stormerne, I always do my best to reply the game the fastest possible. Since yesterday I was buried under work and today as I said, the server had problems to let me connect (perhaps it doesn't like mongols
). And I had a chat with Kira today (it's now becoming usual, once everyday)2. g3 Nc6 3... I suppose you gonna move your bishop for a classic defense... BTW, Stormerne, what's the name of this opening? Since all opening moves bear the name of a great player. ------------------ Genghis K. |

No no no, I think you're wrong Kira. Look, what about starting again the game? I think I understand why you're wrong. Look here how is "coded" a chess board. You are white and on the bottom, I'm black on the top.

Kira and I* Honoured that you chosed our thread to ask our question. No serious ![]() Anyway: there is a thread explaining all the details. I invite you to read it. But I'll also sum up here if you like. You put first the name of the unit you move (K for king, N for kNight, B for Bishop, etc.) then just its destination. Of course somtimes it can be amibiguous. Example: you have 2 Rooks on a same line a. Then you also have to specify Ra-a3, or Rh-a3. When you speak about bishops, it's impossible to get confused so you can just put Bc5 for instance. When you check you put a "+" after, eg Qe4+. When you take an enemy, you put an x. => Qxd4 But anyway, if you feel unease with that, just look at the game Shadowdal vs me. You'll see a more classical coding, ie start->arrival. Hope that helps you. ------------------ Genghis K. |
