Poll: Build queue

What should the build queue be for our first city for the next few turns? This is an informational poll, and will remain open until the beginning of the next turn chat.

We need warriors and settlers, that's clear. We also need a granary; we are surrounded with plains and need to grow. A granary will help in that. Barracks are not so useful yet; no Barb activity and no AI close, so it seems.

Donsig makes an excellent case for our next build queue and I urge you all to read it before voting

The granary is essential at this early stage to increase our rate of growth and production. By having a granary built next, we will be able to produce more of the things you want and more quickly too.

Posted by Donsig

The first settler will be complete in 8 turns. Since the capital will grow just before that it will basically take 20 turns to produce a second settler because that's how long it will take for the capital to grow back to size 3. If a granary is queued up right after the first settler it will take 16 turns to build and settler number 2 would take 6 more turns. Building a granary between the two settlers merely delays the second settler by 2 turns.
Which is more useful, an early granary or 3 more warriors or a warrior and a barracks? Well, once the granary is in place the capital could crank out a warrior and settler pair every ten turns. Even if the settler producing responsibility is diverted away from the capital the early granary would allow the capital to produce many more shields for warriors, barracks, spearmen, workers, etc. Assuming the plains could be irrigated fast enough and no entertainers would be needed, allowing the capital to grow unhindered to size 7 without a granary would take 60 turns. During that time the capital would produce 380 shields. On the other hand, if the capital had a granary at size 1 it would grow to size 9 in 60 turns and would produce 540 shields along the way. That's 160 more shields, a production boost of over 40%.

I fully support Mr.Donsig's argument. He isn't your usual blond.

EDIT: Therefore, I cannot vote on this poll, as the option I like is not present.

My option isn't here either. Except for the current settler I don't see a pressing need for the capital to produce any more. A city founded in the southwest will produce settlers faster than the capital as it will have more efficient growth.

This poll was really only to determine whether to produce a barracks or granary early on. The number of settlers is another poll entirely.

Warriors, settlers, granary, provided that the granary is first...

Mine is abstain because I have a totally different Idea that puts the Granary and the Barracks in the que. You can find it in the original thread for this discussion in the Citizens Forum.

Just for the record, if the poll question had been:

Should we build a barracks in the capital before building a granary there?

I would have voted *No*.

Shai- I accidentally voted for warriors and settlers, can you change that to warriors, settlers, and granary?

Otherwise, it should be -1 for option 1 and +1 for option 3

Sorry naervod, we never alter poll results. I believe you and eyrei can take your statement into consideration when he analyzes the results of the poll but changing ballots opens up a huge can of worms.
