Colonies IV (Release 4.1)
OK, here at last is Colonies IV. After extensive beta testing (see here ) the scenario has been uploaded to the CFC downloads are.
Click here for the main scenario. (Version 4.11 with a slightly amended Players Notes file and Spanish Cities file) Click here for the sounds. I really recommend that you read the PlayersNotes.txt file that forms part of the main zip! This version is designed for single player/standalone play. A Multi-Player version should be out in a week or so...I will announce that in this thread. Please feel free to post feedback, complaints, even praise here....I have tested the downloads and unzipping just now, and they seem to work for me. If you have problems, please post them here or email me at my address here on CFC (see title bar of this post). The game requires Civ II MGE. Great scenario. A real difference from the first playtest version. It's a lot better now.
Good that you changed the arquebusier graphic. ![]() Anyway, terrific job.

I like it
Did you really mean to include the notes.txt file though? (especially as it appears to be outdated...)

Very good so far - though I've only played the Hapsburgs (in single player) so I'm not sure how it compares to Colonies III (which I loved) when using the more tradtional powers.
Finally (in 1641) drove the Swedes from Germany and am looking to consolidate my gains before turning on the Independents. I'm trying to restore the pre-Reformation Empire so France and the like don't have much to fear (yet). Do chuid |

Congrats John, Played the first 10 years so far as the Brits, all appears to be normal.
I wonder if Henrik could be convinced to make a tech tree file for this one similar to de' Historibus Europa? That would be a real help in playing this one especially for us older players who have a touch of Alzheimers........ And John have you considered a question and answer section sometime in the future for Players notes? Something like: Question: "How do Slaves transform Jungles and Swamps to Plantations?" Answer: "Move the slave onto a jungle or swamp terrain hex and then press "O". Thats not obvious from the "order" menu and I had to ask how to do it. (Way back when.) There maybe other issues that warrant this treatment as well. Just a thought. |

John, you give too much credit to the playtesters IMHO. (including me)
It's you who have worked on it, and we just had fun and played with it.

Steve, a good idea, and if Henrik were to do a tech graphic that was as good as his earlier ones, maybe I would include them both, when I do the MP release, in a "tips pack".
I tend to forget that other people haven't lived and breathed the Colonies IV tech tree and mechanics for the last 12 months!

Well, Yop, the beta testing was essential to find most of my sloppy errors. Also, people like Henrik and AoA made a lot of gameplay suggestions, some of which were adopted. I am happy to give them due credit. But yes, it is my scenario, warts and all.
![]() RNolan, as the notes say, the Hapsburgs are not really intended for play (their Government form and large industrial capacity make them a strong power early on), but of course there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't give them a go for fun. I just make no promises about how well the game will be balanced for them. |
