i tested out soem of the features but havent played it much yet. ill probably play a long game in a few days, but first ive got to finish medieval ttoal war, since im on the evrge of my first ever win on it after 13 hours of playing so far.....
i just want to ask, on a 56k conection (i know, its vry slow, but im outa broadband range, so i have no chance of improvign my net speed ) how big is the lag time between turns and opponants moving peices?

Congratulations on your purchase! My immediate piece of advice is don't build the Internet if you are employing ICS and don't want to trigger a Domination win...
I'm afraid I couldn't answer your question on multiplayer. I've got broadband and I don't use it, only an occasional PBEM.

Should have waited to see if they chose you to beta test Civilization 3: Conquests before buying it.
But, Congratulations!

Dunno about lag with a 56k, I have broadband myself. But then, I dont' play online, I just PBEM.
Of course, the biggest lag is d/l'ing the 200k+ file. I understand that they can get over a meg, but my highest so far is about 200k. Of course, we play small maps. |

I thought he was talking about having to spend time beta testing C3C, instead of getting to play PTW.
But yeah, that's funny. |

Right,
If they chose him to test Conquests and he likes it, then why buy PTW. If he didn't get chosen then he could have bought it.

Sorry I'm confused; is PTW still turnbased? Or is it more RTS? Because what difference would ping make to a turn based game, when surely data through-put would be the highest concern?

PTW single-mode is still turn based. My limited experience with multiplayer is that it's 'turnless', ie when you move a unit it starts an individual clock and can't move again until it's clock ticks. Ditto for the cities. It's almost too fast for me to keep up with, hence my preference for PBEM if I go online for my gaming at all...

but you can play by turns with PTW, turnless is just one of the supported modes.

ping would affect a turn based game anyway, since evry unit youhave to move would take time for others to see, and then when everyone else moves, it takes long time to register
