Turn 0 -- 4000 BC
Ok starting spot...good production city, Game/Forest, 4 BGs, some forest and hills. I order up The Wheel.
There's water to the East, but it's not a lake

Turn 9 -- 3550 BC
Goody hut yields...barbarians...but in the end I get an Elite Warrior out of it

Turn 16 -- 3200 BC
Goody hut yields...25 gold

Turn 20 -- 3000 BC
Goody hut yields...maps

Not much happened; we haven't met anyone yet, but there looks like some good spots to build. We appear to be at the SE end of a continent.

Beijing finishes a Settler next turn. If someone wants to take a stab at a dotmap, feel free.

Here's our world:

Why a settler so soon before the granary?? For that matter why not research pottery . Looks like some good land around and not very crowded

I've got it.

I went for The Wheel first so we could find horses asap, just in case there were neighbors...turns out there wasn't...

Also, the mountains will be a nice defense when we go isolated

3000 BC (0): I will let the settler complete eventhough it will waste 4 shields. Water is going to be a huge problem with very little irrigation our cities will be heavy in shields but food poor. I will try to get a city that will be better for settler but nothing sticks out as a great spot.

2950 BC (1): settler is heading north to the Coast and will have the wheat in the radius with zero overlap with Beijing. Sending a conscript to cover that city. Beiijng is building a barracks. More exploration.

2900 BC (2): Warriors spot wine to the West. Nothing more to say.

2850 BC (3): Settler is in the next city spot. More exploring. Wheel is due in 15 turns.

2800 BC (4): Make contact with a zulu scout in the West. We are behing by, Pottery, CB, The wheel, and Bronz working . Masonry gets us the Wheel, pottery and 10 gold. Begin research on HBR, due in 40 turns at 20%.

2750 BC (5): Found Shanghai and start a barracks. Swap Beijing to a granary. HBR is now due in 27 turns. Beging chop of the game forest.

2710 BC (6): zzz

2670 BC (7): Spot the zulu boarders about 15 tiles West. BTW we have a local horse that will be in our next city radius. Decide to swap Shanghai to a worker.

2630 BC (8): zzz

2590 BC (9): zzz, BTW zulus have 4 cities.

2550 BC (10): worker completed his chop. Granary due in 5 turns.

2510 BC (11): Pop a hut in the north and get a skilled warrior .

2470 BC (12): Dyes spotted way up north.

2430 BC (13): Shanghi builds a worker starts a barracks.

2390 BC (14): Granary is due next turn. more exploring.

2350 BC (15): Beijing builds a granary starts a settler. Should be able to get on a settler rotation with some MM.

here is the save:

Good turn. Looks like the Zulu have met some others...and they'll be our first (only?) opponent before isolation...

I'm glad we have a horse nearby...is there a second one nearby as well (would be nice to have an extra, although to be honest, I don't recall that horses can move like coal/iron/etc can)

Ten turns each from this point on.

IHT: Everything looks fine.

Turn 1 (2310 BC) Our warrior promotes while dispersing an Harappan camp.

Turn 2 (2270 BC)

Turn 3 (2230 BC) Beijing grows to size 3. Settler now in 3. Goody hut an barb camp in sight

Turn 4 (2190 BC) Shangai grows to size 2. Barracks in 7. Goody hut gives us 25 gold . New barb camp in sight.

Turn 5 (2150 BC) Our elite warrior dispersed a Havar camp.

Turn 6 (2110 BC) Beijing finished training the settler. Starts another one. Settler goes to the horses spot. Our conscript warrior promotes while dispersing a barb camp.

IT: Our warrior at the horses spot promotes while fighting off a barbarian.

Turn 7 (2070 BC) Beijing grows to size 2. Settler in 7. Another goody hut in sight

Turn 8 (2030 BC) Research to 70%. Horseback riding in 3 (-1 gpt, 125 gold). The goody hut gives us more insight on the world map. It reveals a purple border and another goody hut. Another warrior meet the purple people from India. They know Alphabet (apart from Bronze Working and Ceremonial Burial which the Zulu also know). However, they don't know Masonry. We learn Alphabet form Masonry and 46 gold. The Zulu give everything they have (two techs and 25 gold) for Alphabet. The Zulu also happen to know Iron Working.

Turn 9 (1990 BC) Canton founded SW of the horses. This way it will also have one wine when it grows. The Zulu acquired knowledge of Mysticism.

Turn 10 (1950 BC)

Horseback Riding in 1. We make 3 gpt and have 100 gold.

1950 BC save

This is our empire:

Got it, will try to play tonight.

Any tips for directions of my turns ?

Hearing nothing, I will try to settle on a northside riversquare. Know it will be a second ring city, but thinking of securing river trade for us.

I agree with the northside riversquare spot. We also should settle SE of Beijing, but that place is probably ours anyway.

Turn done, quiet, too quiet

CTR3

Plans are to expand as rapidly as possible, so we can grow fat in our own splendor later.
Gain a shield in Beijing, since it is about to grow. Gain a coin in SHanghai for same reason. Coin gained is lost, as I still cannot lower science.

IBT: India complains about our traders. We agree they were a bit pushy, and promise to take a wider detour around the womens baths.
Horseback riding comes in, and I set our scientists on Mathematics, hoping to trade it for Writing once an AI researches that.
SHanghai Barracks completes, and I am sorely tempted to take out a worker, but I go warrior. Needs some small garrison in cities.
1910BC: Change my mind about Math, since we are in a Monarch game, and I deem chance is excellent of landing Writing first. Elite warrior pops a hut on a hill, and comes away with mysticism. Not too shabby that.
I get Ghandis 78 gold for Mysticism. In spite of this inflating our treasury to 178 gold, Shaka is unreasonable.

1870: Move warriors.

IBT: Beijing completes settlers, and I set it on Barracks. Want to have Beijing up in size, not comfortable with size 1-3 settler factory.

1830: Decide on a close build with Shanghai, as I would like to have a riverside settlement. Will have game forest in immediate ring too.
Shangian village gave us a skileld warrior.
Buy a worker out of Zululand for 115 gold.

IBT: Canton produces warrior, set to worker.

1790: Zzzzz

IBT: Zzzz

1750 More movement

IBT: SHanghai Warrior->Warrior

1700: Nanking founded. Set to granary

IBT: Beijing Barracks->Spear ( Horse prebuild. Want a horse should barbarians show their ugly faces. )

1675 Some MM.

IBT: We got horses online. Shanghai riots. ( Sorry guys, got sloppy and didn't count faces when I MMed. )
Canton completes worker, is set to Barracks. Could be second troop builder.
Zulu starts Oracle.

1650 Sacrifice 3 gpt and one turn on Writing for entertainment. India still has no money, nor a new tech to trade for horseback riding.

IBT: Shanghai completes warrior and it is set to MP, so we can scratch lux tax. Start on Spear.

1625 Zzz

1600: Russia founds a city right under our scouts feet. They are up Iron, but down horseback....
She only pays 30 for horseback, and will not sell iron for horseback and 40 gold. Will wait a turn and see if price drops.

1575 Think really hard about changing Beijings horse to a settler, but decide that my first think was sound. We need some defense against roving barbarians.
Next player may of course decide to veto. I have put a lot into the Wrinting Gambit, but this being Monarchy, we should be able to pull it off.
We need two workers to irrigate in one turn, and 1,5 workers to road in one turn. Make good use of our worker force.

Too bad I missed this one. BTW ChrTh, apparently you and I had the same idea for an SG - take historical policy in a time period and apply it to a Civ. Only mine is with the French in WWI.

(BTW, this is NOT an ad. )

We are researching Writing?? Either is a good tech to grab and trade but I hope that we didn't swap in the middle.

Glad we got some tech from a hut another warrior or maps would just be the RNG being mean .

I will see if I can post a screenie soonish, feel the need for a dotmap discussion.

Grimjack

[EDIT] Here comes screenies.

Could we have some attempts at dotmap discussion on this. I feel like teh horse in Beijing was almost a chickens way out of deciding where to go with next settler.

Will think a bit myself too, but I do not fully trust my dot-mapping skills.

Pre turn: Change Horse in beijing to Settler. Change spear in Shanghai to worker. Trade India HBR for Iron Working (why didn't you do that Grimjack?)

IBT: some scouts come out from everywhere.

1550BC: Beijing: Settler-> Horseman; Shanghai: Worker -> Worker. After a lot of thinking I decide there is no way we can optimally settle in the West so I decide to sent the settler to found a non-optimal city near the wine. It brings us closer to the Western choke point and to the iron. Trade HBR to Russia for 35 gold.

IBT: Some barbs fail to attack us. We will retaliate

1525BC: We kill a barb horseman.

IBT: India starts on the COllosus

1500BC: Kill another barb. Zulu have writing. Lack communications with India. Give communications and get Writing plus 100g for the trouble. India lacks communication with Russia but since they are both bankrupt we wait. Seems it's only the four of us on this continent. I start a Polytheism 40 turn gambit in lack of a better idea.

IBT: another barb pops up.

1475BC: We manage to lose a veteran warrior while attacking a barb.

IBT: zzz

1450BC: Shanghai: Worker -> Horseman

IBT: zzz

1425BC: Tsingtao founded. Starts worker.

IBT: more barbs in the West

1400BC: Beijing: Horseman -> Horseman. Canton: Barracks -> Horseman. Wines hooked.

IBT: zzz

1375BC: Workers build roads.

IBT: Zulus demand we leve their teritories.

1350BC: Move workers around.

IBT: Russian scout approaches Indian terriories

1325BC: Moving workers. Left one warrior not moved near the Russian scout.

If you wonder why I put that town there ... it's to get us closer to the choke points that we should get.

India must have acquired Ironworking recently. I suspect I didn't check diplomacy last turn, because I waited for India to acquire something to trade for horseback.

Sloppy Grimjack.

I tell you what, our isolation is going to be a peace of cake! We'll have this corner all to ourselves, so we shouldn't have to yell at too many people to get out.

The cities we build in the mountains should be fun
