Worse than popups

Look what came to greet me when I browsed the forums just now! The bottom of the page says "click here to continue to Civfantics.com"

This is in the forums btw, not the main site

The weird thing is that I can't even see who this mysterious sponsor is... i think I asked my firewall to run some kind of ad remover a while ago, might be what's preventing the image from the sponsor to load?

I don't see how it's worse than pop-ups...

We removed the takeover ad from the main site yesterday and just added it to the forum tonight. I think it's better than having both popups and takeover on the main site.

Takeover ad is not as bad as popups, since it only appears once in 24 hours.

Lord_Vetinari, if you can, you should disable the ad remover when viewing the site. Servers and bandwidth are not free, you know.

I thought it was worse than popups since it can't be stopped with a popup blocker.

If it only appears once every 24 hours I can defenitly live with it.

Thanks Lord_Vetinari. You are now a contributing member.

I just changed the thread title to 'takeover ads" btw, so other people who have the same question about the takeover ad can find my reply faster.

I thought this was another pop-up type thing gone wild. . . but as it's intended, it's kind of a moot point anyway.

I've gotten two takeover ads in the last half hour, so it isn't "once in 24 hours".
If was only once in 24 hours I'd think it was acceptable.

Also, I don't seem to get it if I come straight to the forums in my browser and don't come here through the main page (which is pretty much always anymore).

ho hum, the price of fame for CFC.

TF, can you tell us if you set up a donor program? If there were a way to pay $5 or something via PayPal and get rid of these ads I most certainly would...

The takeover ad only works once per 24 hour period from the same computer. If you have cookies disabled I am not sure what it does. Sometimes you won't get any ad at all, this is ok as 100% is not sold.

As for removing ads alltogether, that is being developed and will be in place before the end of the year.

You likely got it using different computors or IP adresses, like I do.

So I get them maybe twice a day - once at work in the morning, and once at home in the evening. I'm pretty sure I can survive two extra mouse clicks each day to help support CFC ....

TF, this was in my head the other day so when I jumped on CFC, I clicked the popup... (I remember something about it benefitting the site if we did) And whatever was supposed to load up never did. I tried man.

I just got two takeovers this morning, within 45 minutes of each other.
