TBS....where does the Strategy stands for???

Hello, i play Civ for more then 10 years now, and there is just one thing i start to wonder more and more about. Why do they call this game a strategy game? I mean be real, there isn't alot of strategy done here, at least not from combat view of point. It might aswell be called a TBC.....(turne based casino game).

Build barracks everywhere to have veteran troops, sent defensive units together with your attacking ones, put them on a hill, mountain or jungle to gain that extra boost? Don't worry, it doesnt mather much anyhow, the combat outcome feels a bit like a casino.....totaly at random.

Uhm ehr wait then there is strategy in the diplomatic game.......

Anyhow this isnt a rant to burn the game, i am still a fan of all the civ's. It's just that after 10 years i still hope the programmers came up with something better then letting the AI cheat to make it harder

Since Civ is not designed as primarily be a wargame, it should not come as a surprise if military strategy is a bit simplistic.

But combat outcomes totally random? Get real! Look at AI-AI wars - the stronger side almost invariably wins.

While the CivIII AI does leave various things to be hoped for, it does trounce the CivI one. Cheer up - things are going in the right direction!

Ehr ok "totaly at random" might be a bit out of order, i think that came from the fact i just came from an failed warcampaign in a game

I can tell you there is alot of strategy involved in playing this game...Strategy in what improvements to build when, city placements, when/if to declare war, number of troops to take into war, what type of units to take into war, how to develop your infrastructure...damn dude I could go on and on but if your still not convinced PM me and I'll play you a 1v1 in Multi player.

As a war game, the Civilization series sucks - turn based or otherwise. As a civilization game (including war and several other aspects) it's the best there is.
I would guess that if the market for this kind of game was large enough (which it probably isn't) and a company with more resources than Atari/Firaxis chose to do it, an AI could be written that would be virtually unbeatable. Then the cheats would have to be given to the human to make the game playable.
As it stands, with all its flukes and quirks, the Civ3 games continue to keep a lot of us entertained.

Increase the difficulty level and you will be using more strategy in Civ3 than in any other game you've ever played.
