Japan overpowered in WWII Conquest?

Seems to me that Japan is a bit strong in the WWII Pacific Conquest.

I just beat Sid difficulty in 8 turns! That seems a bit on the easy side, when teh scenario is designed to run for 50 turns.

Even against other human players, Japan is still very strong.

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Not really. Japan has an advantage in the start of the game but has a hard to rebuilding any losses.

Yeah...they have very poor produtivity. I mean, there main cities are on islands(meaing alot of sea squres, meainign no shields) the terroty they ahve is islands. China Is too far form the Tokyo to have reduced corruption. Americans have islands who are bases, but thre main cites are on land(so is china, england) giving em a lot production. I admit Japan is, for me, the most fun civ to play, because i think it'S a challenge. I played one turn, thought i was owning, then BOOM, those ship sunk my transports, containing units, and they sank other very powerful ships...that really hurt.

Productivity is pretty irrelevant when you start with enough units to slaughter the AI out of hand.

I probably wound up building like 6 light tanks and 6 marines in the eight turns of the game, mostly by just buying them. Other than that, the 200+ starting units pretty much allow you to utterly dominate the AI, even on sid level.

Japan's navy is more than capable of annihilating the entire allied navy. The two starting armies, backed by captured artillery can mop up the Chinese with ease.

As long as you're careful and don't lose full transports, or get youir armies killed, victory seems almost assured.

@ Cobra Commander if Japan is too easy play as China or the US or Commenwealth. I played as China and managed to hold off Japan and even went on the offensive and captured some cities.

I think this is the easiest conquest. The AI sucks at all things sea related - they can't mount decent invasions, so your cities are never under threat

If you enjoy getting your butt kicked, try it in a PBEM
against 3 good human players!

That's just my point!

You can beat the computer pretty much anytime because it's so incompetent.

But Japan can even beat up on human players without too much trouble.

Japan can get about 10,000 victory points on the FIRST TURN! Before the other humans even have a chance to move. This makes it pretty tough on the allied players.

Question How about a list?

What were the VP locations you captured on turn 1?
My question is can you hold them against allied
counter attack?

Captured artillery? I seem to recall having to build my own.

You used to be able to capture stealth bombers, but that was changed in Conquests. They provided the stealth bomber with a defense stat of 5, so no more capture. OTOH, no more automatically being shot down when intercepted.

Err, not sure which ones exactly, but the VP locations are completely irrelevant. Capturing cities and killing units is where you get your vp's. The cities that I capture on teh first turn are: Two or three of the chinese cities, including the 2nd largest one. Hong Kong, the south most burma road city, and teh northmost singapore peninsula one. Manila, Guam, Wake, Davao. Maybe some others, I forget now.

Considering the A.I counter attacking is kinda like 'military intelligence,' holding onto them is quite easy.

I agree the AI is useless on this scenario, but against
human opponents, you have to remember, Japan moves last.
It is possible for the allies to draft units and fly them into
any city with an airport. That would make some place
like Wake a much tougher nut to crack.

Yeah, but that's sort of an exploit IMHO. The AI just has no clue what to do, either as Japan or otherwise. I've never had them inflict serious damage at Pearl Harbor, but I've been able to capture both cities in Hawaii easily as Japan. The AI should try much harder to get atomic weapons, at least, and not obsess so much over air defense. The last time I played it as Japan, America seemed to spend the whole scenerio building wildcats. It made air attacks very difficult, but I could just bombard them with surface ships since they almost never used them for bombing runs.
