Poll Results: 67% of Civers Play on Chieftain -- King Levels!

Our last poll, "Which level do you play on most often?", is closed today with 1123 votes collected in 23 days! This is definitely our biggest poll so far!! Thanks to everyone who voted. Here are the results:

I am very surprised by the large percentage (67 percent) of players who play on Chieftain-King levels. Civ2 has been out for 5 years and I thought most players would have advanced to Emperor or Deity level by this time. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0></P>

Our next poll is not directly related to Civilization. The poll question is "What is the speed of your computer?". Some players have expressed their concern that Civ3 may have high system requirements and that they may need to buy a new system to play it. The purpose of this poll is to show the average speed of civers' computers. Hopefully Firaxis could take the results of this poll into account when they set the system requirements for Civ3...

This is actually very reassuring. When I first came to this site I figured that everyone was like some super-civer and could slaughter Deity Level easily. I was almost afraid to play multiplayer!

I usually play Deity, unless I'm trying some new, far out strategy.

- i play on prince, i find it easy enough, but going to king makes it quite hard. i sorta understand why ppl say it is too easy, the prob with most games difficulty level, is that it keeps the same AI, but just makes it easier/harder for you depending

- I would safely persume that this poll is useless as many people may be inclined to vote for a higher ranking to make themselves feel good when they are most likely a lowly prince as I am. Just though I would say that this is useless - bye

I have progressed to king level, which I have been playing for a while. I move slow, guess that is what happens when you hit 40. Tried my first at Emperor and fell behind in science quickly, guess I need to adjust my tactics. I have found as you move up, you need to adjust how you play, what works at chieftan, doesn't work at Prince, or King. Hopefully I will join the ranks of the elite here at Diety soon, until then, I pay homage to those civ gods at the highest level. I salute you

I am not suprised, until I came to this web site I used to play prince if I wanteda challenge. Now with some of the strategies that I have picked up, I have moved up to Diety. I have yet to beat it, but that is only becasue I have been playing multiplayer alot more.
Also, there is nothing wrong with topping out with King or even Chieftan, as long as you are having fun!

I play King for a challenging game, and prince for a relaxing game. In prince, I usually have up to 15 techs ahead of the AI. I guess I'm not that good compared to Cunobelin of Hippo and others, but somehow I get lucky at multiplayer. I think my main problem is I overlooks defense and attack too soon. My science and economy is good, but most cities only have 2 good defenders, as opposed to 6 in the AI cities.

I like King or Emporer.
Deity stresses discontent too much, and it throws game out of whack.

i think i already posted this here, but i too play king and emp for fun game, and deity for challenge. vlad, i too do not defend cities, and dont even attack. i usually have only 1 defender, and maybe 2 in outlying. civs in deity dont attack very well. not even vikings.

It's true. The AI can never mount a significant attack. Guarding your cities well in the early stages is a waste of resources and time.

Diety is for weeklings. There should be a way to limitlessly increase the difficulty in civ2 like there is in civ1. You pansies don't know what you're missing.

I almost always play on prince, but have been having a few games on the higher levels.

TTG, the one thing i have to say about Civ 1 is that building a palace was more fun than building the throne room in Civ 2

Looking at those statistics, they make perfect sense. 67% of people play on the first for diff levels. 4 levels out of 6. Now last time i check 4 out of 6 is 67% or 2 thirds.

Is this just happenstance or is there a darker power behind it?

I hate how the AI cheats on Deity. You have two size 2 cities, and already civil disorder. The Ai civs have civil disorder equivalent to Cheiftan.

I think Vlad that Deity is suppose to be hard.

Sid Meier should make deity hard by pure AI intelligence, not cheating.
