upgrades
I was playing as the Persians, and developed the immortals...
I thought I could upgrade my warriors to this unit so....I went to a city that had a barracks and could not do it....not available what are the rules that allow upgrades ??? TIA |

make sure that city is connected to iron, make sure you have enough gold

Maybe warriors can't be upgraded to immortals like horseman can't be upgraded to Samurai.

theoden: It depends on patch level. AFAIR in unpached Vanilla Civ it was impossible to upgrade any unit to the UU but it was changed with some patch (1.16f?). AFAIK the only exception is Viking Berserk (PTW, C3C).

I see. I haven't checked it out lately. Well, that makes the Japanese much better. My conclusion was from unpatched vanilla or so i think.

Act'ly, you can upgrade Archers to Berserkers, and Bersekers to Guerillas. Whether the later makes much sense is an open question - for 60 gold, you lose the amphibious ability but does gain a much better defense and the defensive bombard capacity. Whether this is desirable depends pretty much entirely on whether you have any need of amphibious capacity at the time.
