Once you get 300 posts you can have a custom avatar, and will ALWAYS be able to have it, even if one or more of your posts are deleted. I'm assuming gorn got himself a custom avatar after reaching 300 posts, and afterwards some (possibly just one) of his posts were deleted and in effect he now has less than 300 posts.

Yes... that's one of the main post deletions usually... some minor ones happen, but more seldomly.
