Abbreviations for techs
Is there a posting of “standard” abbreviations for the tech’s (advances)? Or even a standard listing of the abbreviations for all the shorthand used in the forums for CIV II?
I have been reading some of the advice posts in the GOTM (Game of the Month-I got that one easy enough) but the “Tech plans” have me baffled on a few points like the PT and MT in… Alp/CoL/Cer/MON/Wri/Cur/TRA/Map/Lit/Mys/PHI-Hor/(Mas)/PT/MT It certainly seems like people try to type as little as possible and I don’t understand why someone capitalizes TRA for Trade but mixes upper and lower case in Mys for Mysticism. |

PolyTheism
MonoTheism It's genearlly not too hard to tell if there's the context with the post. The all Caps ones are generally more important, or main goals, such as Monarchy, Trade and Philosophy. |

Re: Abbreviations for techs
That sounds like one of mine.
The abbreviation list is found in RULES.TXT in your Civ2 directory, under @CIVILIZE. The abbreviation is the last item in the row. Most of them are the first three letters; some are less obvious, like Cst for Construction. A few use abbreviations, like PolyTheism, MonoTheism, and Combined Arms. Electricity and Electronics are E1 and E2 respectively. I capitalized a few of them to make them stand out because they were key goals for directing research, points at which you would take a significant step such as changing government or building Marco Polo or Mikes Chapel. Sorry if that confused you. If you use a tech planner utility like the excellent CIV2PLAN it helps to have a copy of the list clipped from RULES.TXT. |

Re: Abbreviations for techs
Thank you for the tips. I have been playing for a long time and never opened those files. I see that it could make the game very different but I prefer the "classic" play as it is. I believe my version is ... I don't know! How do you find that out? On the game cd it has 0-492-47-101...does that help?

Re: Abbreviations for techs
In the game go to Game menu/game options(control+O).
Your version # should appear across the top of that window |
