OK, since Louis needs only one instead of two chariots I could make an Asian type instead.
Which one should it be? And are there any good pics somewhere available? I'm not exactly an expert in Asian warfare

Can you live with a two horse version? And is that a javelin (which would be throwed in the attack anim) or a kind of pike? Alternatively, I could make him with bow and arrow, if that is not totally inaccurate (as said I've no idea about Chinese units
)

I believe it's a pike. But a chariot archer wouldn't be too inaccurate either. Two horses are perfectly fine as well.
It doesn't have to be completely accurate to the finest detail.

i imagine its more piercing (looks that way too) than slash such as pikes that is more towards the gwung-dao... but im not an expert..
ill post some models and u pick them. add in: below is some exampled of pikes/spears. for an infantry units, ususally light spears and later on due to adv. in metal making; more of the longer and formally very heavy types. for the mean time just understand the rather large and heavy was for the very strong soldiers/generals. Spears were used more often by common guards and infantry of the chinese. I would expect the same for chariots. I dont see a chariot rider jousting towards an enemy with one of those HEAVY BUTT long pole arms... but then again i can see them come closer to slash away... but can is all i can say on that... i think horsemen would slash away better than chariot rider.. all are opinions. i can not give historically accurate details as you asked.. i hope someone else is an expert at this to give what you want. hope pic. helps.

Thanks BeBro! I think we would all appreciate at least the one chariot -- and the Han Dynasty War Chariot is exactly what I've been looking for my scenario, so I cast my vote in on that one. There was another thread specifically requesting some East Asian chariot units, with some really good reference images included that I was going to suggest you look at, but I can't seem to find it now....
[edit] Thread located! http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=90230 Here's the thread with LouLong's fine examples of some equally fine Asian chariot's -- including the war chariot.

@nameless53
The Monk's Spade was used by Lu Zhi Shen the monk in the novel "The Water Margin". He's a literary or legendary hero, not a historical hero. The Guan Dao was used by Guan Yu, a famous general during the 3 Kingdoms period, later immortalized in the novel "Romance of the 3 Kingdoms". This was a historical figure who eventually ended up being worshipped as the Chinese God of War.

Bebro : for the picture, you can use this one as well ( http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpo...19&postcount=3 ) and for the weapon it is typically Chinese, it is not a spear nor a javelin, more a primitive sort of halberd (you can see it in the picture, it has two blades).
I bumped the thread. And ... thank you !

Its funny, at first Bebro said he didn't want to do any of these units....now your bombarding the poor guy with cool unit pictures because he agreed to do ONE chariot...

First try.....
....for the chariot. Please post suggestions if you'd like to see changes. All the colors (chassis or on the horses) can be easily changed as well, just in case you guys prefer something else....
![]() There's still a lot of work ahead..... Edit: oh, and this will be the last chariot for a while, at least from me. Last edited by BeBro; Jun 26, 2004 at 06:32 AM. |

i like the example where the color of the chariot was red.
(you can make that the civ color indicator if you can... assuming someone might use it out of chinese civ) rest is fine to me.

Ok, I changed the chariot's color a bit, made it more red. But I don't want to make that the civ color, I think it looks strange when the entire chariot appears then also in white or yellow (when you use it for other civs).
However, I can't start to work on the warrior/driver before this weekend. But in the meantime I'd need some help: has anyone some better (bigger) pics of Chinese warriors I could use to model the chariot's crew? I have to take a closer look at their clothes, trousers, boots, hats etc. (I'm not sure if I should go with civclub's armoured verions, they look great, but I think the request was more about those other warrors without helmets etc?) |
