I need examples

Take pictures of your empires! My city placement sucks. I usually end up going with OCP but I know that it's no longer effective. Help me!

There is a lot of discussion on city placement in GK2 - The Training Day Experiment. Succession games in general are a great way to improve your game, and the players will often post dotmaps for city placement. You should be able to find lots and lots of empire pics in the SGs.

Good luck!

As shown in the screenie above, you should generally use 3-4 tile spacing. Just remember: the majority of the game is played with your cities size 12 and smaller, so OCP wastes a lot of tiles until you get past sanitation, and probably wastes quite a few after that. Try to make sure your city has about a dozen workable tiles, and place the next city accordingly.

Some people like to leave more space for their capitol, but that's a preference issue.

I place my cities a bit further apart. Sometimes I go back and fill in the un-used areas, (Grandview) especially near my capital. To me, city placement is all about utilizing terrain to its maximum effect. This is why I founded Ridgefield, so I could build an iron works.
