Totti being investigated for spitting

Video pictures clearly show Totti spitting at Paulsen in the Italy - Denmark game. A UEFA hearing is on Wednesday. He spat on him numerous times in the match. He could miss 2 - 6 games.

The Danish FA say: "On several occasions, and unprovoked, Totti spat in Poulsen's face."

The Italian FA say: ''We're already gathering our own evidence. I spoke with Totti and nobody likes to be at the centre of a disciplinary hearing, but he was calm and hopeful.''

"The players are preparing for the Sweden match. This episode cannot and will not affect Italy's performance."

Do you think they will call Voller as a specialist witness?
And Rijcard as a spitting expert?

Yup, Totti has to miss the next games... and being Italy's only threat to other teams... that's their fate sealed

Well, I haven't seen any pictures but if Totti really did this he is a major idiot.

I saw the video at half time of the Portugal - Russia game.
He justs turns around, sees Paulsen standing near him, you see his cheeks bulge, and then he just spits full on in Paulsen's face. Paulsen must have a remarkable temprament because he just wiped it off his face and carried on playing.

Maybe this sort of thing is normal for the Italian game

Totti should get thrown out of the tournament. That sort of behaviour must not be tolerated on a football field. UEFA must send a message to everyone.

I just think it's a double standard to threaten the English will explusion for the bad behaviour of the fans but not do the same for the players. And what is wrong with banning the Dutch forever?

Have you noticed how many English flags are at the other games. It seems there are more footy supporters in England than any other European nation.

As was I. I think we should start a letter-writing campaign. When that fails we should turn to a bomb-making campaign. When we're arrested we should change to a plea-of-insanity campaign. Then finally to a blame-the-German-guy campaign.

You surely mean a blame-the-insane-German-guy campaign and only yourself.

I saw a video too. He gets hit by Paulsen (nothing especially savage, I must say), then he decides he had to do something: his two neurons click on the wrong side and he does what we saw.

These things are by no means more "normal" in Italy than in any other country, I believe: we just do not run across the field spitting into everyone's face...
I played one year in an amateurs league in Holland and I saw many of the silly things that I saw in my home country.
It is a bit sad to read those commonplaces over and over again.

Of course, Totti *is* a major idiot -much as he is a talented player.

What I found really disappointing is the italian federation's behaviour: of course one doesn't like to be at the centre of a disciplinary hearing. And it's surprisingly easy not to find oneself there -just behave properly, as mama taught you...

For a second or two, I had hoped that our federation would send him back home without even hearing what UEFA decides. But if there are so many commonplaces about Italy, there must be a reason... :sigh:

If it's true...then it's over for Italy. They can start packing their bags.

Does anyone else think the Totti hearing would be ripe for a JFK-parody? A la Seinfeld.
