Nuclear Minefield

Has anyone tweeked the stats on mines to give them nuke ability? How about sea mines? That the only way I can imagine destroying a unit or sinking a ship in a single blow. They do have nuclear depth charges you know.

Most mines do not have a movement point, therefore no attack, therefore no nuclear attack.

If it is possible, I sure would like to know how.

couldnt you just set the bombard attack at like.. alot and then it would destroy it in a single blow.... make it invisible then so they just run into it? im not sure, but it might work....

Rumor has it the PRC also mined some approaches from the USSR with nukes during their years of tension from the late '60s through the '70s; I don't know if it's true but the idea is certainly a good one.

I guess someone should set up an immobile unit with a decent DF and a nuclear capability and see what happens ... ?

The British also developed nuclear mines as well called the Blue Peacock. Though how the hell these could be in any way useful in the real world, I don't know.

Assume a tactical nuclear battlefield (scary, all that NATO / Warsaw Pact planning) and stick one in, oh, say, the Fulda Gap in then West Germany and set it off as an entire Soviet armored corps is passing through.

-- Jolly good fun, that Cold War ...

Testing, testing ...

Okay, I just tested it in game -- the "nuke mine" (immobile, nuke, etc.) defended as a regular unit and did nothing, well, nuclear.

Sorry, Wyrmshadow et. al., it would've been a good idea.

Why not just give the mine a defence of 300 and an Attack animation that looks like a nuclear explosion?

btw, the Royal Navy also has nuclear-tipped torpedos too (stick that up your batleship and smoke it )

My point about the nuke is that it's incredibly costly to build and costly to maintain (it required its own heating system for the winter). They only had a yield of a few kilotons. You might bag a whole army, but you might just as easily bag only a division of easily-replaceable men. I dunno, it just seemed like it didn't do anything that couldn't be accomplished by other more practical means. And I guess the NATO officials saw it that way too... well, that and the humanitarian reasons. I'm sure the Germans weren't too thrilled about that idea.

Well the first thing Kohl did after the Warsaw Pact collapsed was to send Bush back the Pershing missiles (well most of'em) Reagan had installed. But apart from the fact that Germans don't feel too great about Nukes I'd think a nuclear mine, be that a terran or naval version would greatly unbalance the game to the extend that the AI will go for building only mines instead of ships.
