I need a BIG HAIRY APE

I'm posting these pics from my family album for a reason...

I need this baboon! I need it for an Egyptian unit I will be doing in the relatively near future.

I don't need it to be a hi-poly model, but it's got to at least look good at civ-scale.

I also need it so that the arms and legs are straight with the arms stretched out so that it'll be easier for me to add a bone structure in Poser.

Or if anybody finds a model on the internet... even better!

I downloaded a whole bunch of very low poly models a while back... This baboon was in it. Use it if you want (although I might be able to make a better one in a few days.)

Like I said VERY low poly... and the arms aren't spread out in the clasic Poser position.

It wouldn't be the first collaboration.

Kinboat, if you want to make a baboon figure, I'm certainly not going to stop you. This one can be workable, but it's not preferable. It just seems like you've got a lot to juggle right now.

Where exactly the difference between monkeys and apes ? I don't think they're such differenciation in French. I know Apes are the big monkey as gorilla, chimp, ouran outang and such, and monkey are probably the Lemurians, the New World monkeys, ect, but where is the line drawn ?

Pretty much where you drew it. From The Cambridge Encyclopedia:

"(ape) An anthropoid primate; comprises the lesser apes (gibbons) and great apes (orangutan, gorilla, chimpanzees); differs from most monkeys in having no tail and in using arms to swing through trees, not by walking along the branches (Family: pongidae, 10 species)"

I would like to point out though that the Lemurians were a mythic race of people supposed to have occupied a now-sunken continent between Africa and Asia.

I acknowledge it was a shameless home-made traduction of the french word "Lémurien".

The word is translation in english.... you may need to get yourself an english dictionary

Btw, the english word is Lemur, so I did understand. The fictional continent of Lemuria was the concoction of a few scientists in the 1800s who were trying to explain why Lemur species could be found in Africa and South Asia. Hence the name.

Yeah I do have a lot to juggle... If you can work with that one then go ahead. I should be working on other things anyway

Lemurs are Primates but I didn't think they were considered monkeys or apes.

Lemurs aren't monkeys or apes. They're a third kind of primate. They're a bit more basic than monkeys, just as monkeys are a bit more basic than apes (and I know that's a terrible value-laden approach to evolutionary science, but then I'm pretty basic myself!).

I've often wondered how the French tell the difference between monkeys and apes, given that the word "singe" appears to refer to both. But then Americans usually appear, quite wrongly, to use the words "monkey" and "ape" interchangeably, so I wonder if that's connected somehow. As in the great quote of Homer's - "She called me a baboon! The ugliest, smelliest of all the apes!" (or words to that effect). I used to assume that this was a subtle joke - not only is Homer a baboon but he doesn't even know what a baboon is. Then I learned that this mistake appears to permeate throughout America, so perhaps it wasn't intended after all.

Anyway - what on earth is this baboon unit going to be?
