Baseball GMs- Time to Shine

There are about 11 days left until MLB's trade deadline . What teams
should be the big players in the trades? What teams are pretenders and
what teams are contenders in your opinion? Who should
go where?

For example: My Phillies can't shake the rest of the division, should they go
looking for another solid starter? Maybe Benson from Pittsburgh.

The Yankees need another starter for playoffs---Randy Johnson???

etc....

The Mets, if Scott Erickson cannot do well, need a 5th starter, but they could probably try Yates or Griffiths again, or numerous minor leaguers.

The Yankees needing another starter is true, but I hope they don't get one.

No comment on the Red Sox.

Is Nomar going or staying Erickson's best days are long gone.

The Mets need to make a serious push for a top line starter to make any type of push in the playoffs. A 4th or 5th starter just ain't going to get them anywhere in the playoffs.

Trachsel is a good pitcher, but not someone I want on the hill in the third game of a playoff.
And getting rid of John Franco or relegating him to a mop up role would also increase the Mets chances of success.

I think that their starting pitching, excluding the 5th pitcher, is good enough with Leiter's 0.65 ERA at home, and like 2 ERA overall, and Glavine with similar numbers. A forth or fifth starter won't get them anywhere in the playoffs, but would help get them to the playoffs. Trachsel is a good enough pitcher that he stands a reasonable chanse in the playoffs with his experience.

Definately not get rid of John Franco! He is already in a relatively minor role, but he is the captain of the Mets!

I worry about Jae Seo.

I'm not content with just making the playoffs (obviously), but rather making it to the WS, and hopefully paying the Yanks back from the last subway WS. I'm still not sold on Trachsel being able to win big games against quality ball clubs, hence the reason why I want another top line starter (preferably a righty).
Regarding Franco, I think I speak on behalf of most Mets fans when I say I cringe every time he gets up in the bullpen. Yes, he's taken on a reduced role. But he still ends up in games that are on the line. And adding DeJean to the mix doesn't help all that much, if anything, it's probably helping the opposing hitters !
You're not the only one who worries when Seo's out there.

are looking at picking up Benson (Pitt) . He starts today for them

so I am anxious to see how sharpe he is . The Phils are back tied

for 1st w/ the Braves after beating them last night in extra innings!

[dance] . Funny how you guys were just

discussing Franco yesterday.?!

I'm sure these Mets fans are sure excited about seeing another superstar being bought by the Yankees. Frustrating, isn't it?

Being a Nomar fan, I wouldn't mind seeing him shipped to the N.L. so I can see him play more. I heard the Cubs are interested in him.

It's always a nightmare nowadays for Mets fans when Franco comes in. It's like playing Russian roulette, but with 5 bullets instead of 1.

It's actually not frustrating to me at all. The Mets have tried to buy players too, but usually the players they buy end up sucking when they come to NY.

*Sigh* He would make a good bullpen coach too...

*sighsigh2002sighsigh*

In my eyes, the Mets got lucky in 2000 even making the WS, because the Diamondbacks beat the Braves in the Divison Series. I knew that the Mets could beat the Diamondbacks, just not the Braves.

Still, I'm a Red Sox fan too, so I really want the Yankees to somehow screw themselves over.

What do you guys think the Astros should do? Fire-sale or keep at it with

the players they have now. They can deal Kent & Beltran and probably get

some great prospects . I also heard Delgado may go to Dodgers .

Benson had a great game pitching, maybe the Phils can get him. I also heard

the Phils were trying to trade M Byrd for S Finley from Arizona . That

would be .

If I was the Astros, I'd go on a firesale. Too much of their best talent is going to retire soon, and they arent making the playoffs this year. time to re-tool.
Im hoping my Indians can shore up the bullpen. They can score runs and pitch just about as well as anybody, but they always blow it in the 8th. The AL Central is weak, so if they win 7 of 10 or something, they can take the lead.

@ Matt- I agree about the Astros . The Indians A-ball team in Kinston,NC

is about 20 minutes from my house, I have seen alot of their current players

play there including V Martinez, one of my favorites .

They are pretty good this year too easily winning the 1st half of the season!

Maybe the Indians might could get Urbina but he might be expensive.

Although Phils and A's have always been my favorite teams, I to pull

for the Indians nowadays due to seeing so many Kinston games . Wedge

used to coach there too>

V Martinez is a beast. I think that Urbina is too expensive...but I think we should be able to raid the bullpen of say, the Brewers or the Royals, and get a decent lefty. I havent started looking at names yet.

Hardly any lefties available , except the 'Unit', not even relievers.

P. Gamons says Houston still think they are in it , we'll see

For the Astros, KEEP BELTRAN! Biggio, Ausmus, and Bagwell will probably retire so you need to keep any young talent you can.

And we;re only 6 games out of the wildcard, thats not unmakeable

No one thinks the Pirates are in it though. Last I checked they were 7 games out. (I know they are further out now, but you get the point)

The pirates are trying to get rid of Benson, Mesa and others . It seems

THEY don't think they are in it , but I get your point.
