Alex Ferguson's Future?

Should Alex Furguson go now or face a humiliating league position after a glorious 18 year dynasty as manager of Manchester Utd?

It's a disaster. They should've sacked him when he let Stam go.

I wasn't mad on Stam, but he should go anyhow. He's there too long. I think fans are afraid he'll go and then Utd will play crap for a few seasons until they get someone decent again. I don't think reputation counts when your team starts playing poorly. Like 0-0 with a half Everton squad...jesus.

Even my mother could make ManU play better than this.

Well I wasn't expecting this thread... But then again two other premiership teams have sacked their managers so I guess a poor performance after 4 games (Where we qualified for the CL) is just too terrible to accept...

Man U should learn the lesson of Newcastle. Get someone lined up during the next few months to take over during the next close season. But dont tell anybody.

Madrid is an odd place to manage... There seem to be a lot of other factors where the manager doesn't always have control and really not many managers seem to succeed there recently anyway.

Btw I never voted in the poll since there is no moderately no option...

Selling Beckham and expecting Fortune/Fletcher to do the same job was pretty daft, but the sack? And become like Newcastle?

Actually, given his recent performances, getting £20 million or so for Beckham doesn't look like such a bad deal now. (I realise this is a bit of an about face from some of my comments last season, where they did clearly lack on the right wing after the sale, but if you're wise after the event, hey, at least you're wiser....)

I think he should be sacked.

Man Utd are so far behind Arsenal now. I think he's doing more harm than good for the club. He's spent £35m on Rooney/Smith this summer, while this year Kezman and Defoe have both been sold for what? £10m? Then look back over his recent deals...Kleberson, Djemba-Djemba, Forlan...hardly impressive. It shows on the pitch too...they just can't play top class football these days, and this season...6 points from 5 games. Already 9 points behind Arsenal and out of the title race (not that I think they were ever in a position to compete).

Why not let Queiroz take over? He has experience with the club, and people are ignoring what really happened at Madrid. For the majority of the season, he was a great success. Madrid were at one stage 8 (I think) points clear, with not that long to go. Obviously he can take some of the blame for their spectacular collapse, but there were other reasons - the squad...its defence, and its depth.

I don't think it really matters though. Man Utd are old news now.

You cant be serious here. Hes the most succesful manager the premiership has ever known and you say he should be sacked just because hes had a poor start to the season.

Well, I don't know if that's aimed towards me, but I certainly didn't say that.

Oh, the money they got for Beckham was good business, no doubt, but they spent none of it on replacements. Look at the forwards they have (and apologies for terrible speeling)

Ruud van Nistelroy
Ole Gunnar Solskear
Diego Forlan
David Bellion
Louis Saha
Wayne Rooney
Alan Smith

Four of these are proper good, but you have Fletcher/Fortune hoofing them into the middle. Bad, especially now Giggs isnt looking so hot. Result - go through the middle, and Fergs hasn't bought very well there either really. They'll be fight Liverpool and Newcastle for 3rd/4th/5th if they are not careful.

Actually, If Solskjaer was fit, I think Ferguson would play him on the right wing (where he was keeping Beckham out of the team), though he does like Fletcher at awful lot. Is Fortune getting that many games ? I had expected Ronaldo & Giggs to keep him out.

Perhaps he will play Rooney behind van Nistelrooy, either in the 4-4-1-1 thing that he likes to use in Europe, or in the hole behind a Ruud + Saha or Smith front pair ?

True, if Solskjaer were fit then he may well play on the right. But he isn't, and if he were Real Madrid wouldn't have come waving the chequebook anyway. They just don't have the options there. Ronaldo is in superb form though, but Giggs isn't.

I think he'll use both those formations, depending on the game. Scholes doesn't look the player he was this season and Rooney could be perfect there against some opposition. The 4-4-1-1 will be ideal against stronger too, as it will allow another defensive player to play alongside Keane in the middle.

Heh, I'm talking myself round to their strengths here!

They released their finacial results yesterday, the result being that they have to sell to buy, and I reckon they must be regretting the 50 mil for Rooney, Smith and Saha.
