Those two made me laugh hard. For entirely different reasons.

Interesting! Bazaar gives lux. resource

Seems close to the achievement structure CivRev used: some freebies (build a second city), some that you can get with a bit of work (win as every civ), and some that will take real effort (win as Alexander by 350BC). Seems like there are a few that take some new/specific strategies, which is exactly what I hoped to see out of them - an impetus for players to go outside their standard gameplay and try a new way of Civ (warmongers building, builders warmongering).

I'd also like to express my astonishment that I made it into this thread before any "achievements are killing gaming, Civ, and the environment!" posts.

A fun list. :)

Some very simple ones, so just about anyone gets a few achievements the first time they play. (Think free sample from the drug dealer...got to hook 'em when they're young!)

Then a nice selection of achievements for different leaders, map types, map sizes, victory types, social policy trees, unit types, etc. Always nice to have some incentive to explore all of the game.

Next are some cumulative achievements -- doing something a certain number of times across all games played.

Finally some fun items specific to particular civs and actions. Racking up all of these is likely to take some serious play time.

Looks like a good list. I enjoy Steam achievements for other games, and this will add a little bit of fun for those who want it. And you don't have to care about them if you don't want to.

He Threw A Car At My Head!
Have any city ransomed by Barbarians.

Suggests that we're back to early civ implementation of barbarians; rather than capturing the city or razing it, they just take gold.

that's a lot of stuff to do, given the lack of campaign, at least achievements give motivation to try other stuff and even actually finish games, something I really struggled to do in CivIV/FFH2

Somebody remind me who Alexman is ... didn't he do a lot of code diving here on CivFanatics in Civ3?

Also, why 357 ships for Elizabeth - was that the size of the Spanish Armada?

You forgot a few:

Moderator Action: Removed, awaiting confirmation.

EDIT: Apologies, as there was no link in the thread and the poster wasn't a "known source" of information, I assumed it was just another speculation thread and I made some up. Very sorry about the whole confusion.

(PS: I hope editing a post after a moderator has isn't an offence)

No one says "unique". Could be meant over several games.

You forgot a few:

I hope you know what you're saying, because i've now added these to the OP and can't confirm myself, that these exist and are right.

Ah, and thank you both for compiling the list :).

Those are some awesome achievements, i personal favourite:

You shall not pass!
Defeat a tank with a spearman

Mostly because 2kgreg or colleague just told us it was mathematically impossible.

Well a Healthy Tank, sure.... but a Tank with 1 hp.... I could see it.

Ah, and thank you both for compiling the list :).

I can't confirm that either, but I don't think they exist as there are two different achievements who share the same name "God Is Great". And I believe the OP's version of that achievement is correct!

I Can Has Nukes?
Really?
They should add an achievement:I can has your soul?(Play an additional 1000 "one more turns" in a single game)
