Quick summary - We are the 900lb gorilla.

Japan is gone (awwwww).

Rome has one city left (awwwwww).

Persia has 2 cities left, including a single-tile island (BOOOOOOO)!. Rome's one city and one of Persia's are on the same island.

I think we've got a couple of options here.

First, we can make peace with everyone, cut back drastically on the military and kick research into high gear.

Second, we can wipe out the island, leave 1 sole city, on a single-tile island, to oppose us. We then disband the troops and kick research up high.

Personally, I'm still in a bit of a bloodthirsty mood, so I prefer the second plan. Besides, this give the next DP something to do ...

Other than that, I've been putting outposts around for barbarian prevention, and playing whack-a-mole with pollution. We've nearly won the game, folks!

Should this current bloodthirst stand, I shall instruct our next DP to load up all available transports with our tanks and deliver a message to the Romans and Persians - Get Off Our Planet!

I shall further request that, except for a Destroyer escort, all ships will travel to the one-tile city Persia has founded, and through a combination of direct fire and bombers, reduce that city to a size 1 smoldering ruin, incapable of threatening us for quite some time.

Only then should we make our peace with Persia. Rome, of course, will discover that we finish every fight we start.

There is now 1 non Fanatik city left in the world, Ergili (Persia) on a 1 tile island.
Judging by this i won't have much to do with this game. Just registered and looks very interesting. can't wait tills next one :D

PS Can someone tell me how the turnchat thing works?

Welcome to the game! We are close to the end now, on our way to a spaceship victory.

The Turnchat's held in the #turnchat chatroom on irc-chat (you can use the chatroom link in the red bar at the bottom of the forum if you don't have a chat client). The Instruction thread is posted and all officials post their instructions for the game in it. The designated player plays the game using those instructions and reports in the chat what they are doing and what has happened. Normally around 10 turns are played, less if something happens that needs discussion, more if we need to complete something to aid discussion. If you look in the instruction treads in the main forum you see the latest saves and chat logs.

We're not sure when the next Civ 3 demogame will be, participation has been very low since Civ 4 came out so we're not planning another to start immediately. There is also a Civ 4 demogame on the go which is nearer the start.

I took a look at the save and noticed that we're way above the upkeep limit for units with no effective opposition left to face us. Why not disband all the excess units (down to the limit of 48) and devote the resulting money towards research for the techs we still have left?

Yes, I started with the Cannon, Artillery and Veteran Bombers in the new continent, whilst moving ships in to surround the last city. We don't yet have quite enough to surround it completely. We can then disband may more troops, keeping just what we can support. At the beginning of the last session unit support was costing approx 480 gpt (from memory), I think it is now down below 400 gpt. There is an empty Army in the home continent which is not needed now which will be good for disbanding.

I was thinking we might as well be a bit more extreme with it, disbanding everywhere that remotely needs shields until we're under the support limit (and even then, we can keep going: we don't need a military at all anymore, except maybe a few ships around the Persian city.

edit: given that we're mostly on wealth, we could alternately just dismantle most of our military on the spot, leaving only units in the three improvable cities for future disbands

Please - give my troops gainful employment! Those lazy good-for-nothings are lounging around making a mockery of military discipline!

Why, the other day, one of them actually forgot to salute me! ME! How DARE they!

The nerve!

No, need to disband them wastefully, they can all be disbanded over time in the cities on the Japanese continent, but those cities can still only build improvements in 1 turn! We will still need some troops as barbarians are rife on unsettled lands.

Are there any troops we wish to keep for ceremonial purposes (within the cupport limit of course)? Perhaps a Crusader to commemorate our Wonder or some Elite Cavalry? I don't think we have any Hoplites left. We can steadilty air-lift the remaining troops as they will be needed for rushing the improvements - I think the Artillery (20 shields each) may need a Transport called back from the blockade of Ergilli.
