as long has this thread is resurrected, i'd like to ask:
should this be used along with the regular Immortal, or to replace it?

My understanding is to replace it. I guess the Persian army, Immortals included, was dominated by archers, protected by spearmen with wicker shields. Sword-armed infantry was more typical of Sea Peoples, Celts & Romans I guess. (I'm roughly recapitulating what Kryten said long ago about his Greek cut 'n paste units; I've no idea as to the level of accuracy)
