Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 23
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the twenty-third game in the GOTM V Training Series! There are plenty of new features in Civilization 5 to explore and the Training Series games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these new features in a friendly environment. You are all encouraged to post your questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads described below. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread. Before going into the details of this game, we would like to ask you to abide to our most sacred rule: don’t replay any turns. If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. It's better to do the bad moves in the Training Series instead of in the actual GOTM competition, once it starts.

In this game, the designated VC is Diplomatic. You may win by any VC you wish, as all VC's are enabled, but the results will be posted with fastest finish by Diplomatic victory and then all other VC listed below by fastest time. Good Luck!

In this game you will play as Ramkhamhaeng and lead the Siamese civilization to victory. It's a standard sized random map played at Emperor difficulty and at standard pace. Diplomatic victory is the designated VC for this game, all victory conditions are enabled. You will have until December 1st to complete the game and submit.

Mac players are welcome as you currently have the same version as windows.

Please note that you are only allowed to build Oxford University one time. :nono:

Number of City-States: 16

Game Version: This game was created in Civ5 version 1.0.1.383

In this game, you will be playing as Ramkhamhaeng, you possess Father Govern Children. You gain an increase of 50% of food and culture from friendly City-States.

You can train the Naresuan's Elephant, which replaces the Knight. The Naresuan's Elphant is a powerful Medieval mounted unit that is weak only to Pikemen. The unit receives a bonus against other mounted units and has a higher combat strength than the Knight which it replaces. You may build them with the discovery of the Chivalry technology and do not need to have a resource to build it.

You can also build the Wat, which replaces the University. The Wat provides +3 culture and +33% science in the city in which it is built. You must discover the technology of Education and have a Library in your city to build it.

This is where you will start:

Information about threads associated with TSG
TSG Announcement thread (this one). This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any information from a game you have started. Instead use the next thread.

Game In Progress thread. This thread is used to discuss the game once it's on the way. There are no reading or posting restrictions as such (apart from normal decency), although we encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play.

After Action Report thread. In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state (preferably in the post title) your victory date and score, as recorded in the Hall of Fame, and the most important: your path to glory! , We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the two week period (sorted by date and score). Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after two weeks, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

File Upload System
We now have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature)

This game runs for four weeks and ends Thursday, 1 December 2011.

The Save can be found here.

Quite a godlike start, however I would consider moving up, depending what is there.
Incense is agains the insta WAT trick, but I like culture even if I go to conquest :)

I think I'll move the warrior to that hill in the NE and most likely settle in place. However, if that's a plains tile the settler is on, we won't be able to build the stoneworks, in which case I'll move it to a different tile. I think that's a grasslands tile, but it's hard for me to tell without the yields showing. Depending on what the warrior spots, it might be advantageous to settle on the gems next to the mountain even though that puts the capital 1 tile away from the coast.

I agree with the approach. The ability to build an observatory by settling next to a mountain usually provides a powerful boost to science in the middle game. However, settling on the forest tile 1W of the gems might prove better if it gives more land tiles to work. Again, it all depends upon what the warrior reveals.

was thinking the same. :)

Couple of questions:
If after moving warrior, you suspect it might be an archipelago, will you settle in place next to coast?
Also, i know settling on resource is good for selling to AI earlier as you dont have to work the tile, but the tile itself is less productive? if you're on island is there a benefit for settling on the gems?

cheers

Random Map Type, 10 AI + us. That'll get crowded and very warry.

These starts just get better and better -- I can't wait to start this one tonight! It'll be my first game on Emperor as well, which is a little scary, but also awesome.

what about moving across to the diamond hill? Gives you also a headstart on gold, but leaves the wheat for early growth.....
risk: we're alone an island and we have to found a 2nd city to sail across.

Move warrior to northern gem.
If he finds a food resource, settle on northern gem.
If he doesn't, settle on western gem.

This.

Oh dear, diplomatic vc - my least favourite. Also, I prefer peaceful games, but I think I'll need an army with all these opponents.

I think I'll head north and start on mining straight away plus my usual scout, monument. I'm not confident, but I'll work on the basis that you never see a disappointed pessimist.
