Official System Requirements

the whole fun with not having proper hardware. Currently I'm thinking about a PC:
- Intel Core i5-3550 BOX (4core, 3,3 MHz)
- Vertex3D Radeon HD 7850 1GB X-Edition
- ~8GB RAM
As long as don't plan to upgrade again in a year or two, I would invest the ~ $40 more and go directly for a 3570 and a 2GB HD7850.

Or, if you are building a system specifically for Civ5, an i3-3220 paired with a 7750 GDDR5 will do about as well.

Would it be enough for comfortable play? Am I going to experience any delays, especially later on the game? Do highest details, texture quality etc. still remain an issue?
I've been through some posts in this thread and noticed that some of you claim that avoiding delays later on the game (be it 2000 AD) is hardly possible and a big/huge map would make it even worse.

You will be able to max out the graphics on anything with a HD7750, GTX650 or better with any intel i-something CPU.
You will have to wait for the turns in the late game, no matter what CPU. But a high-clocked Intel CPU will get you the best play possible at the moment.

I used to play Civ IV a lot, but have left the gaming world for the past couple years and am thinking of jumping back in and buying Civ V. I bought my PC two years ago focusing more on processing power than graphics. I meet the system specs and can play the demo version without issue, but I just want to ensure I'll have a great experience relative to load time and graphics with the full version - Similiar to Szarlej's concerns.

I think I just need to update the graphics card. Do any of you have thoughts on what might be an affordable graphics card to max out Civ5 that will be rarely use for other high-end graphic gaming? Do you think any other hardware needs upgrading?

PC Specs:
HP Pavilion HPE-350t
Intel Core i7 860 2.8GHz
8GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD5450
Windows 7 64-bit

Well, basically the same answer as for Szarlej, then ;)

System will be fine for Civ5, but for anything more power hungry than a 7750 (800MHz) or a 650 (non-Ti) you should check the exact specs (max +12V output) of your PSU.

I can varify that Civ 5 G&K will run ok with a i7-3537U, Intel HD 4000 graphics, 8GB RAMM, and a 128 SS drive (samsung). It is a touch screen Ultrabook with windows 8.

"Run OK" as in approximately what fps range on which settings? DX9 or DX10/11 mode?

Anandtech was benching the HD4000 around 15-20 fps on low/medium setting in DX 10/11 mode.

I don't have a way to test that at the moment. It is on a 12" touch tablet using the windows 8 touch option.

I'm getting a 'new' second hand laptop and I'm wondering how it'll run Civ5.

It'll be a 2.2Ghz Core 2Duo, 4Gb Ram and 9600M GT 1Gb.

Does anyone have any experience with that graphics card?

Probably good enough for about medium settings in DX9 mode.

Keep an eye on the temperatures, chips of that architecture tend to run hot under Civ5, (at least in DX10/11 mode).

What do you mean by "run ok?" Are these specs not sufficient to run G&K (and presumably, BNW) with max settings (graphics, map size, etc.)?

CPU: Intel i5 3470, 3.2 GB, 4 core
RAM: 4GB
GPU: Intel 1.8GB (integrated on motherboard) -Direct X 11
HDD: 466GB

I don't know much about hardware, so please avoid too much jargon in any answers. Thank you.

It gives me no problems whatsoever. I am not picky either. I doubt it will do 50 fps. There is some hesitation and the normal late game "slow down" but not more than 45 seconds between turns, minus all the AI movement if you have that turned on. It does not lock up or crash.

The game will automatically set everything for you when it loads. If you have issues, you can change the settings to your satisfaction. Unless it is HD 4000 graphics, you may have issues with the game. As mentioned above it works for me, but people have had issues with integrated graphics.

Thank you.

I am thinking of buying a new laptop soon as my current one is several years old and I feel hanging on its last legs.

I was looking at 2 laptops that I could get for about ~ $400 and I wanted advice on how well these would run:

A Toshiba L875D-S7332 17.3" Laptop

AMD A6-4400M Accelerated 2.7GHz up to 3.2GHz with AMD Turbo Core Technology 3.0 1MB L2 Cache Processor

6GB RAM DDR3 1600MHz Memory, Expandable to 16GB

640GB Hard Disk 5400RPM

A AMD Radeon HD 7520G Video card that is shared graphics.
=========

The other laptop I am looking at is this one:
http://www.staples.com/HP-Pavilion-g7-2270us-173-Laptop/product_132506?externalize=certona

2.4GHz
Laptop Processor Type 3rd generation Intel Core i3-3110M

6GB DDR3 SDRAM (2 DIMM), expandable to 8GB

My range would be about 400-480 dollars and trying to get a value deal here. I am not that savvy though to know how good these specifications are compared to each other, which is better, or if there is anything better around the same range. Any advice/help?

They both should run the game. How well can only be answered by playing the game on the system, unless someone who has a similiar laptop can shed some light on the issue. When I purchased mine, there was one review, that said they were able to play Civ5, and that was good enough for me.

I would not recommend the HP/Intel Core i3. It would run the game, but not very well. As for the other one, I haven't been following up on AMD lately. The Radeon listed isn't great for gaming.

-----

There's some earlier questions about Intel HD. I'm using the game on HD 3000. It runs fine, and I have the graphics turned up. Framerate isn't great, nor does it need to be. Don't expect 60 fps with this game in any integrated graphics.

In the end I think I'll get this PC instead, a bit more expensive but still decent price:

What do you think, how will this handle Civ?

Yay, finally people don't have to complain about not being able to compare their system specs anymore! :D
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/intro.aspx

SORRY IF THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN MENTIONED...but I find it very useful when upgrading parts for a specific game.

Another good site for comparing individual components is:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/
http://www.harddrivebenchmark.net/
http://www.memorybenchmark.net/

Scroll down to find the search option. Stick in the minimum or recommended spec kit to see what it comes out at and then see how your kit compares.

Looking at the CPU and GFX (main issues people have):
CPU - minimum spec processor is 1000th on list - recommended processor is 400th or better
GFX - minimum spec card is 450th on list - recommended card is 200th or better

Hope this helps

So my integrated Intel HD 3000 would be able to play this game? Its 384 or so on the list, but it seems like it wouldn't work. Its integrated with an Intel i5 2.3GHz if that matters.
