I have no luck at all building Wonders on Prince difficulty. It is even possible? Are there any general tips? I like to play Civs/games that have lots of cities, and I try to be a peaceful player, though I keep enough of a military to prevent being attacked. It worked well enough on Warlord (? whichever is one below prince difficulty,) but I'm having no luck at all on Prince. Any advice would be appreciated!

The main thing is to stay ahead in tech.

Stay ahead in tech, and prioritize techs with wonders that you plan to build beforehand. Chop forests for the very early wonders if you really want it, but think about whether it's worth it. The Great Library is usually a good call on Prince difficulty, since it'll give you a good science boost early plus a free tech towards whichever the next wonder is that you want to build. Chopping Great Library while researching Calendar so you can get Philosophy for free is a pretty popular route. The Great Library is heavily contested by the AI though, so you have to be pretty forceful in building it.

Until you get ahead of the AI in tech, you should only aim for one wonder in a similar era. For example, if you chop the Great Library, don't try to go for Stonehenge. On the other hand, you can go for the Oracle if you free-teched into Philosophy since you're pretty much guaranteed to be ahead of the AI in researching Philosophy specifically at that point in the game.

Apparently players reported hard building every wonder on Prince diffculty (including all the Social Policy AND Ideology ones) so I guess it's possible :D

As said before, the trick is to get to the techs earlier to guarantee you'll be the only one building and achieving the wonder. This means you need to focus on growth because it will grant you science to get to the techs earlier and hammers to build them faster. This probably means you should try to get Temple of Artemis early, then probably Great Library while researching Calendar, get Philosophy from the free tech and build National College while researching Masonry for Mausoleum and Mathematics for Hanging Gardens, then you can probably do The Oracle and if you get all of these you have basically won the game ^^

Keep in mind that this is overall a very bad strategy but a very fun one nonetheless ^^

On Prince, as long as you beeline their techs, most wonders should be available to you. Some tips

1) If you have Marble, you get a 15% bonus to wonder building in the Ancient and Classical eras.

2) If you open Tradition, Aristocracy is available as your first policy choice, which gives another 15% bonus to wonder building. With the +3 :c5culture: from opening Tradition, plus a monument, (and maybe a culture boost from a ruin) you can get those two social policies very quickly.

3) Once you have researched Mining you can chop forests with your worker which will give you a 10-20 hammer boost. Concentrate on working tiles that provide hammers over food or gold. Obviously, this may slow your growth (unless of course you are close to growing and that extra pop will allow you to work more hammers for x turns...)

4) Pantheons are very situational in terms of what you take, but there are several that give a boost to production. Monument to the Gods gives another +15% to wonder building, which combined with 1) and 2) above would give you a whopping 45% off. I also like God-King, it's very powerful in the early game, +1 to everything at a time when everything is cheap, and your output is low, is a great boost

5) Pick your wonders. Although it is possible for a high level player to grab what they want on Prince, obviously you're not in that situation. Identify the ones you want and beeline them

6) Know the wonders the AI likes to pick. The AI loves the Great Library. It is possible to get it on Emperor where I play, but the stars have to align to do so. Conversely, The Pyramids always seem to hang around for way longer than they should, and The Oracle is usually available forever. On higher levels Neuschwanstein is almost never picked by the AI, but is a great wonder if playing wide. Whereas I don't know if I've ever managed to build Chichen Itza and Macchu Picchu.

7) Pick your civs - Egypt gets a 20% boost to wonder production. The Mayans get a free great person every 394 years, you can pick a Great Engineer to finish a wonder of your choice.

8) Pop Great Engineers, either through specialists, or a civ like the Mayans, or the Liberty finisher (although I think most people would take the Great Scientist to settle).

9) Don't get wonder blind. Its a temptation we all suffer from, and the FailGold you get from missing out is nowhere near as powerful as in Civ4 where it was a legitimate strategy for gaining early cash. Focus on the 1 or 2 from each era that you really want or need

10) The best way to get the wonders you want after the first few is to get ahead in tech.

Not in Vanilla (per the thread title), it isn't. ;)

The joke is that there are no wonders locked behind policy/ideology choices in Vanilla, so it's impossible to build *any* policy/ideology wonders. :)

This is the best game forum of any. Thanks, all, you are very kind to take time and answer my question. I wasn't doing ANY of that! And I'll set my sights lower - not all the Wonders, maybe, but at least the ones I like!
