We really have no use of future techonologies. Do you support minimal research from this point in time? Would you prefer to wait to discover a few more techs? R & T is prepared to research electricity and replaceable parts, then do a slow rate towards ToE/Hoover. However, I know that some of you want those wonders right away. What do the people of Fanatannia want?

We definitely need Replacable Parts, for the Civil Engineer specialists. If we then research Scientific Method and build ToE, we can use the free techs on Nationalism (for drafting -- see my comment in the gameplay thread about draft and disband) -- and Industrialization for factories, so we can build units as shield carriers that much faster.

I agree we need factories. We'll have hydroplants as our multipliers, but as long as we work on getting temples, libraries, cathedrals and universities in as many cities as we can, we're fine. I agree with dave also about the use of units as shield carriers.
As for the second bit, I just read that and it makes sense. One request for when we go about settling: don't screw up the core with extra cities. leave that for the outlying lands.

We should really stay in it for the long haul. What if we don't get culture in time when the AI gets to the UN or spaceship?

I would kill the science research, and use the cash for rushes. In order to simply stay in the game, we don't have to research tech ourselves, certainly not as the first civ. Buying at third/fourth is a lot cheaper.

Even if we want to do something fun like a multiple victory (like adding conquest, diplo and/or spaceship -- triple/quadruple victory anyone?) we don't need to research quick for a long while I think.

We need to get at least up to Research Labs (Computers) IMO. The 2 cpt is really worth it in the long run. Miniturization grants The Internet, which gives us a Research Lab in every city on the continent. Essentially, it's a free culture wide boost that never ends. Currently, we have 64 cities, and that will only grow. Say we have 100 cities (it'll be a lot more, but stick with me) - that's 200 free culture per turn that doesn't cost a thing. A Palace prebuild can be timed with our research to instantly complete it. 200 extra cpt will speed up our date amazingly!

I don't think we need to worry about losing to an AI that researches the UN or launches its spacecraft; a bigger worry for us is that we don't accidentially exceed the domination limit. If we were after a domination victory, we could probably wrap this game up in another 3 or 4 turnchats.

Ginger_Ale makes a persuasive case for the benefit that research labs and in particular the Internet wonder would provide us. He's right, of course. However, by the time we research through the Industrial Age and into the Modern Age, the game should long since be won. Now that we've almost expanded and conquered up to the domination limit, our task is to build as many cities as quickly as possible, and rush culture in them (using cash that we generate instead of doing research; and by disbanding units built by our productive cities in our corrupt towns). Our warfare days are largely over, as are our science days; now we're in builder mode.
