Just to confirm that the inclusion of 'auschwitz' will definitely result in a ban in germany and all kinds of legal troubles, besides that it is really bad taste. I think the general character of fascism is represented not so bad the way it is.

Just to echo that thought, the little graphic for Totalitarianism has a swastika in it. There is no excuse for displaying this symbol in a game in Germany. It is illegal. Rhye, I suggest you edit it to prevent yourself from falling, even accidentaly, into a world of sh*t.

Incidentally, I found the Totalitariansm image quite cool (though I have absolutely no kind of anything even slightly resembling sympathy for the Nazis). But if it can bring legal trouble, hey, I'm not one to stop you replacing it.
About the idea of giving Fascism concentration camps and and "Auschwitz" wonder, I agree this is a very bad idea. It makes me personally uncomfortable (many relatives of mine were murdered in Auschwitz and I recently spoke with a relative of mine who was taken there as a a child and survived [an amazing story but not really relevant to this thread]) and it's also not exactly fair to take Fascism and turn it into Nazism. There is a difference, after all.

It doesn't matter if you don't mind, you (and CFC) are making it available for download in Germany. That is enough to break the law. I would suggest changing the centre of the flag to the three "fasces" symbol. As an Italian you should understand that. I personaly like the graphic as it is, but I understand the law in Germany and there are no exceptions. Alternatively you could warn people in Germany not to DL your mod!

Speaking of Germany, beta part 2 is now downloading, should be done soon and then I get to have my fun playing as Germany again (I only hope the Dutch and French go at eachother again like last time so I can prey on them once they're too exhausted to continue [again]. ^^)

Argh. Started playing (as Germany) and stopped when I saw I can build a Horseman without connecting Horses or researching Riding.

Well, that's what most wargames companies do. But that is a bit over the top for the this mod.

boo-hoo for germany. Really, who cares? If their country wants to forget their past and act like nothing ever happened, that is their choice, but the rest of the world doesn't have to cater to them... It is absolutely rediculous. BTW Italy is not Germany... if I had a website (I am an america), I am free to put swastikas all over it if i so desire (I dont), regardless, Im not legally bound to watch over the content that is available to Germans. Rhye is doing nothing wrong, so don't tell him he is.

laxpimpj, I don't think such a small issue as a single game icon should be put in the way of the many German gamers' enjoyment of the game. Most gamers don't actually have anything to do with that law so it's not exactly fair to make them "suffer" for it, especially when we can so easily make the mod legal for them to play.
And again, speaking of Germany, after I fixed the horseman problem in the biq, I started the game again and it's fine so far. No special comments (at least, none yet.) I was just a bit stupid and missed my chance to settle east of my start by a few turns. (Damn Austrians.) A quick conquest of the Netherlands will remedy that. (I have a leader waiting for me to have enough cities. Got him by killing an invading Roman Legion [everybody wanted my Literature for a while, so I got several threats. The Romans were serious, unlike the rest.])

No Auschwitz small wonder. Not all Fascist governments are genocidal, and not all genocidal governments are Fascist, and it's not as if concentration camps are beneficial. When you add that it's offensive, I think it's pretty clear that it's not a good idea.

Now let's drop this subject and get testing. I'm downloading the beta now.

Actually I doubt the symbol for to be much of a problem, no judge with any common sense will come to an interpretation that will render that and the whole mod unlawfull. The times are gone when I got arrested for 'display of symbols of an anti-constitutional organisation' for wearing a 'throw that swastika into the garbage bin' kinda t-shirt while partaking in a anti-nazi demonstration. Luckily a little recherche of my friends found the son of the officer arresting me to be a very active nazi ... actually I happened to know him... from kicking his sorry ass when he and his fellow scum attacked a fugitive shelter - ended up without even a trial for me, but it was pretty close. But the times of such absurdities are definitely over.
Enabling player to build auschwitz is on a different page of the book though. The problem is the active utilizing of the player to increase his chances to win the game. Exactly that may really arise trouble. Err, just my 0,02€. I'd really hate to be forced to look for anomyzing proxies to downlad the mod.

edit: @laxpimpj: the exact reason for such laws is NOT to act as if nothing's ever happened. It also happens americans had an active part in creating this very law... geez, you folks sometimes are hard to understand over there.

For some reason, I'm getting a very slow download speed from your site, and the download keeps "completing" before it's actually finished. (At 900 kb, for example). I don't know whether it's my problem or a problem with the RoC site, but at this rate it will take me a long time to download the mod.

Jaguar, I had the same problem. I remedied it by using Download Accelerator Plus. I guess other download managers could work as well.

The law in Germany applies to Rhye and CFC because the DL will be available in Germany. It doesn't matter where you are, or where Rhye is, or CFC. I'm offering this information because I don't want to see Rhye (in the first place) or CFC get into trouble because of this. What I, or anyone else, thinks of the graphic is immaterial. If it was not a concern then top selling games like MoH would sell with swastikas all over it, but they dont. Why tempt fate? Is it really that important?

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to add that it is (probably) illegal in Sweden and Belgium as well. So if if Rhye wants this Mod to be added to a Firaxis "Best of the Mods" CD....
