Hello Team BABE,

Here is a screenshot of your starting location. Please note the following things:

There is y-wrapping. That means units can move from the bottom of the screen and appear at the top.

The screenshot is at 4050 BC because when creating PBEM saves, you must use the first turn to assign passwords. Creating this turn before 4000 BC was made so that the game does indeed start at 4000 BC.

You have 48 hours to play this first save.

Please post in the Turn Tracker in the main forum when sent.

You are to send all saves to The Council (all team emails are in the Team Info thread in the main forum).

So, good luck, and don't forget to have fun! :)

woot.. .the game is afoot. I'll fiddle with the spreadsheet to see what I can come up with

There's a happy face in the darkness SW of the forest and another S-SE of where the settler is. Generally, my guess is on the spot for the settlement but we may want to move the worker to the BG NW to get commerce rolling.

what I initially see is this:

starting 9 tiles = 3 BG's 2 grasslands (1 is our city center), 1 forest on grass, 1 hill & 2 plains

looking further to the fat cross in the fog (21 tiles) = starting 9 and 2 more hills, 6 more plains (1 with lux and 1 with another resource), 1 more grass, and 2 forested grasslands

we'll have 13 tiles on the river so that means that we'll have decent commerce for a while

We are in the upper right corner so most exploration should be away from our capital :p

We need the owrker on the hill, it reveals both boni, it is only natural to me. After that, unless we find a cattle out of reach or something, settling on the spot is generally wise.

EDIT: yeah, place a big black bar across that text, if anything shows it'll catch the next train.

I tried to check the screen but get an error trying to load that...hmm could someone post a screen here enlarged?

Here you go, with the gathered intel so far. Rik uses fog-gaze friendly graphics so it was easier to see on his than on my picture.

EDIT: The lux looks most like wool to me, but I'm not sure wool is in, so I'd go for incense second, but incense is 2g and Rik's shows 1g only, which leaves us with wines, which may not produce a food anyways (cf last mtdg)

I don't have the nice graphics pack that shows the food/gold/shield stuff as the first picture has... but

That is actually my screenshot (and my graphics pack). I checked the editor file for the map and incense are at 2g (just like in a normal game) - the fact that only 1 gold dot is shown must be an error with my graphic pack.

Right, sorry Mr Ale, and I also was dumb enough to think the graphics adapted, here, for a second ;)

ok, not being the best at starts, do we send the worker on the hill or settle on the hill? Seems like we do not lose any of the goodies (3BG, incense (?) ) and might gain something...

so what is the thinking here?

some of us are online discussing this now.. so far, we are steering towards settling in place, and moving the worker to a bg.. but that may change

EDIT:: casey.venters AT hotmail Dot com is my MSN addy

/me is going to bed right now, so no discussing for me...

just my 2 cents. By now, I see no reason to not settle in place.
But worker to hills might reveal something interesting. I'd vote for that first, then stopping and discussing.

I would prefer to not waste the worker moves especiialy at this early stage...

here is the conversation I had with Beorn and Whomp

Spoiler :

MIKE TYSON says:
Happy new year to the Rower and the family
Tubby Rower says:
hiya
Tubby Rower says:
is this BEF?
MIKE TYSON says:
yes, sorry
Tubby Rower says:
I love the Avvie btw
MIKE TYSON says:

Tubby Rower says:
did you see the starting screenie
Tubby Rower says:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=4934923#post4934923
MIKE TYSON says:
we can negociate your surrender right now, for the MTDG
Tubby Rower says:
civ4?
Tubby Rower says:
or c3c?
MIKE TYSON says:
the one with DaveShack
Tubby Rower says:
oh the 3mc?
MIKE TYSON says:
so that's ... sugar and
MIKE TYSON says:
ya
MIKE TYSON says:
hill wines?
Tubby Rower says:
sugar?
MIKE TYSON says:
S-SE
MIKE TYSON says:
and W-SW
Tubby Rower says:
we aren't using hte GOTM mod are we?
MIKE TYSON says:
the image is
MIKE TYSON says:
now where to move is going to be a tough call
MIKE TYSON says:
worker SW gives us the nature of both boni, so that sounds natural
Tubby Rower says:
I would move the worker to the BG's
Tubby Rower says:
planting the city will show 1 tile out
MIKE TYSON says:
so it's 2 early worker moves against intel

Whomp has been added to the conversation.

Tubby Rower says:
I would prefer to keep the worker moves to a minimum
Tubby Rower says:
hiya baldie maximus
Whomp says:
Hi guys
Whomp says:
B you want to move to the hill?
MIKE TYSON says:
I'm kinda tired so I translated to french in my head and it sounded like "let's not use the worker too much"
MIKE TYSON says:
I like intel a lot
MIKE TYSON says:
but it does take 2 worker moves away right off our hands
MIKE TYSON says:
the one SE is sugar
Whomp says:
and borders pop in 10
MIKE TYSON says:
the one SW is moooost likely wines
Tubby Rower says:
yup
Tubby Rower says:
gives 1 food
Whomp says:
i'm not sure i'd waste a turn on that kind of intel when we'll have a warrior in what 5?
MIKE TYSON says:
the thing I'm most afraid of is missing out on a grassland wines that could boom us up to 4fpt
Tubby Rower says:
we could mine a cow
MIKE TYSON says:
then again the river stretches around a lot and if there's anything we'll make sure it catches the next train
Tubby Rower says:
I still can't believe that 2 of the smashmouths thought about doing that
MIKE TYSON says:
soooo true
Whomp says:
brb
MIKE TYSON says:
and Rat is really an amazing player, AI-wise
MIKE TYSON says:
wait wait, if we're using gotm mods, these could be lambs
MIKE TYSON says:
they actually look more like lambs than wines even
Tubby Rower says:
but they are a lux
Tubby Rower says:
so they almost have to be wines
MIKE TYSON says:
wool*
Tubby Rower says:
ah
MIKE TYSON says:
I remember one screenie with wools in it and guess what
MIKE TYSON says:
Klarius didn't bother with the graphics
MIKE TYSON says:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=114913&d=1139057082
MIKE TYSON says:
wait he did
MIKE TYSON says:
almost
MIKE TYSON says:
anyways nothing clear
MIKE TYSON says:
and it's clearly not the same mod we're using here
Tubby Rower says:
I just downloaded the save.
Tubby Rower says:
I also added all of hte contacts including hte send saves email group
MIKE TYSON says:
better idea than looking at the screenie
Whomp says:
I wonder if Rik used GOTM resources
Whomp says:
You'd think he'd say
Whomp says:
since some players may not have dl'd them
Tubby Rower says:
unfortunately I don't have any graphic pack that shows anythign at all
MIKE TYSON says:
but then it still works out alright, it's just graphically incorrect for the odd player
MIKE TYSON says:
I definitely see something, but not enough to call it
Whomp says:
it's two smiley faces
Tubby Rower says:
no it's not
Whomp says:
i can see one
Tubby Rower says:
the smilie in the SE should be clearly visible
MIKE TYSON says:
1 gold cannot be incense
MIKE TYSON says:
the SE is sugar
Tubby Rower says:
the one in the west is
MIKE TYSON says:
I'll put my hand on it
MIKE TYSON says:
bet*
Tubby Rower says:
btw, both x- and y- wrapping
MIKE TYSON says:
!!
Whomp says:
what does that mean?
MIKE TYSON says:
torus shaped world
MIKE TYSON says:
no poles
Whomp says:
small words
Tubby Rower says:
it means that you can walk from the NW to the SE in the mini map
MIKE TYSON says:
you just wrap around N-S like you do E-W
Whomp says:
ok
Whomp says:
no poles interesting
MIKE TYSON says:
it's weird
Tubby Rower says:
how long does it take to mine a BG?
Tubby Rower says:
nevermind found out
MIKE TYSON says:
6
MIKE TYSON says:
3 to road
MIKE TYSON says:
1 to move
Whomp says:
it will spit out a warrior without mining
Whomp says:
first
Whomp says:
in 5
Whomp says:
i'd road first I'd think
MIKE TYSON says:
so it either works out fine like the cinderella start we have on the 3MC
MIKE TYSON says:
or we all get slow starts, which advantages AGR's a lot
MIKE TYSON says:
WAIT ! he changed the lux powers last game
MIKE TYSON says:
wines didn't give food
MIKE TYSON says:
ivory was just one gold
MIKE TYSON says:
stuff like that
Whomp says:
yep
MIKE TYSON says:
lemme grab a save from the last one to check it out
Whomp says:
i don't remember seeing smileys either
Tubby Rower says:
no indication of suce tampering this time
Tubby Rower says:
*such
MIKE TYSON says:
we had no indication he changed the wines before we found out they weren't giving food the hard way
Tubby Rower says:
no we didn't
Tubby Rower says:
it was stated up front
MIKE TYSON says:
alright, didn't read it back then
Whomp says:
should we ask?
Tubby Rower says:
are granaries half price for AGR?
MIKE TYSON says:
nope
MIKE TYSON says:
only aqua and hospitals, maybe solar plant or recycling center
MIKE TYSON says:
basically, just aquas really
Tubby Rower says:
if everyone got slow starts... why not go for a granary to increase growth right off of the bat?
Whomp says:
philo
Whomp says:
it would probably help
Whomp says:
but man that's a long time waiting for a gran
MIKE TYSON says:
say we settle right there, I'd take my chances at chopping the forest, fishing for a BG
Tubby Rower says:
if we don't chop, then that's only 3200bc
MIKE TYSON says:
it would pay off to go granary by the time we meet the 'villains'
Tubby Rower says:
if we go for a warrior first then the granary is pushed back only 2 turns
MIKE TYSON says:
if it's a fast start, it depends on how many fast spots we actually have
MIKE TYSON says:
quite true
Whomp says:
question is whether the capital needs a gran
Whomp says:
the second city may need it more
Whomp says:
it will never be a five turner from what i can tell
MIKE TYSON says:
there's 12 tiles to reveal yet
MIKE TYSON says:
if this is anything like the 3MC we're in for surprises, and with y-wrapping I wouldn't be surprised if we had a weird looking world with opponents across corners
Whomp says:
so the chop could either be another settler or a gran depending on the revealing
Tubby Rower says:
first settler could be out @ 3100BC pop limited
Tubby Rower says:
there's 5 teams
Tubby Rower says:
so corner positions wouldn't hold up for everyone
MIKE TYSON says:
fortunately, there's more than the star position
Tubby Rower says:
true
MIKE TYSON says:
otherwise life would get boring sometimes
Whomp says:
Rat posted
Tubby Rower says:
should I post the spreadsheet with the 2 warriors and a settler?
Tubby Rower says:
I really see no other choices
MIKE TYSON says:
I wouldn't put much work in it right now
MIKE TYSON says:
we only know little so far
Tubby Rower says:
meh.. I did it in less than 25 seconds.. so not much invested
Whomp says:
Tubs can you post a better picture for ThERat
Tubby Rower says:
it won't have those nice little icons
MIKE TYSON says:
neither, but got something
MIKE TYSON says:
there
Whomp says:
btw i'll be out of town tomorrow thru Thurday
Whomp says:
when does CDZ game come back up Tubs?
MIKE TYSON says:
it has been stalled there for a few weeks
Whomp says:
lots of games stalled...
Tubby Rower says:
3rd I think
Whomp says:
ok i'm back on the 4th
Tubby Rower says:
I've posted the pic from my computer
Tubby Rower says:
I could play for you
Whomp says:
USC pounded Mich
MIKE TYSON says:
the game SW started the other week is now farther in than any other pbem I'm in
Whomp says:
i asked Robi but he thought it was the 4th
Tubby Rower says:
love the spam email Bernie
Whomp says:
which spam email?

Tubby Rower says:
Tubby Smells...
Whomp says:
not me
Whomp says:
MIKE TYSON says:
not guilty!
Tubby Rower says:
came from Team Kiss email
Whomp says:
wtf?
Tubby Rower says:
check the gmail for BABE.. I was planning on leaving it
Whomp says:
can we close that email?
Whomp says:
I'm playing Rocoteh's WWII scenario
Whomp says:
3rd week in
MIKE TYSON says:
multiplayer, C3, C4?
Whomp says:
c3
Whomp says:
i was thinking it could make for a real fun RPG SG type game
Tubby Rower says:
email gone
Tubby Rower says:
well archived
Whomp says:
wtf?
Whomp says:
that's weird
Tubby Rower says:
no I did it
Whomp says:
it wasn't me btw
Whomp says:
oh
Tubby Rower says:
no biggie
Whomp says:
silly
Tubby Rower says:
Tubby smells... ...maybe good....

This is spam.
Tubby Rower says:
that's the message
Whomp says:
from you?
Whomp says:
lol
Whomp says:
you're nuts
Tubby Rower says:
no not from me
MIKE TYSON says:
the maybe good is the part that makes me wonder
Whomp says:
from who then?
Tubby Rower says:
probabyl daggie
Tubby Rower says:
or AK
Whomp says:
probably
MIKE TYSON says:
the rest is A grade spam spam
Whomp says:
lol
MIKE TYSON says:
where did you archive it?
Tubby Rower says:
into All MAil
Tubby Rower says:
no label
MIKE TYSON says:
it's from team babe to team babe
MIKE TYSON says:
so no admiral and no daghie
Tubby Rower says:
hey... reading GA's post.. it sounds like it IS incense
Whomp says:
weird
MIKE TYSON says:
LOL
MIKE TYSON says:
that's a good find
Whomp says:
OK my recollection of wacken comments
Whomp says:
he'd only move for a food bonus
MIKE TYSON says:
so back to the real issues here: who could hold an olfactive grudge against his Rowingness
Whomp says:
see no advantage of moving off a BG either
MIKE TYSON says:
unless we get a clean cut fast and furious 5fpt sitting out there
MIKE TYSON says:
river BG's beat the sugar because they're stacked together, the sugar is sitting alone
Tubby Rower says:
we are on a regular grassland
Whomp says:
if we moved to the hill it would be massive commerce
Tubby Rower says:
sugar is on the river so shouldn't it be +1 food and +1 gold?
MIKE TYSON says:
so it comes down to moving to the BG right away, taking a chance at revealing something, or settling and waiting for the worker move
Tubby Rower says:
so 2 food, 1 shield and 2 gold?
MIKE TYSON says:
despot river sugar is no better than a BG because you won't lose worker moves not roading it
MIKE TYSON says:
yup
MIKE TYSON says:
2-1-2
Tubby Rower says:
settling to the north wouldn't be too good since there is that mountain there
Tubby Rower says:
unless there is a nice big Whomp relative up there
MIKE TYSON says:
long term we gain the 3 hills settling on the spot, which is big
Tubby Rower says:
yup
MIKE TYSON says:
there's nothing promising enough south to move away from 2 BG's
MIKE TYSON says:
so it's on the spot or NE to the other grass
MIKE TYSON says:
NE-NE and NE-E are either coast or desert (FP)
Whomp says:
the capital will be a monster production and commerce city is my guess
Tubby Rower says:
capital should be a nice powerhouse.
MIKE TYSON says:
yeah
Whomp says:
food will be slow but a 2nd city will end up being a settler pump is my guess
Tubby Rower says:
a settler factory could be within view by the time the settler gets out
Whomp says:
so getting a settler out early may make sense
Whomp says:
xpost
Tubby Rower says:
yup twice
Whomp says:
bald guys
Tubby Rower says:
I'll just let you talk Whomp since you are more elegant than I
Tubby Rower says:
God created only so many beautiful heads .. the rest are covered with hair
MIKE TYSON says:
LOL
Tubby Rower says:
I would think that the worker should move due north
MIKE TYSON says:
looks most promising to me
Tubby Rower says:
it reveals most fog
MIKE TYSON says:
the only 2 tiles with good food and no worker move hassle are the ones to the NE
MIKE TYSON says:
and it reveals 2
Whomp says:
it's a good spot anyhow
Whomp says:
bg
Whomp says:
river
MIKE TYSON says:
very
Tubby Rower says:
sexy
Whomp says:
lovey really
Whomp says:
lovely
Tubby Rower says:
I wonder why there are no food bonuses
Tubby Rower says:
slow starts suck
MIKE TYSON says:
COTM31 had 4x 4-turn factories if you settled cities 2 tiles apart
MIKE TYSON says:
and I got them all to 50spt late game without nuke plants too
Tubby Rower says:
holy cow!!

MIKE TYSON says:
that game had a huge start
Tubby Rower says:
how many cows on hills did you have?
MIKE TYSON says:
lol
MIKE TYSON says:
BG's everywhere, 2 deers, 1 wheat and 1 cattle
MIKE TYSON says:
despot it was 4 6 turners
Tubby Rower says:
not a bad return
MIKE TYSON says:
or 5 turners with painful micro
MIKE TYSON says:
nearly asettler a turn by the QSC mark
Tubby Rower says:
so to sum up so far...

move worker N or NW if nothing then settle in place?
MIKE TYSON says:
can't wait to farm up the 4v4 map too, it loks like it has that kind of potential
MIKE TYSON says:
NW reveals no food-able tiles, N could reveal something
MIKE TYSON says:
on spot if nothing shows, NE if something does, and move to irrigate it ASAP
Whomp says:
brb
Tubby Rower says:
nothing will show up to move the settler
MIKE TYSON says:
?
Tubby Rower says:
so should we settle first to see which way to move the worker?
Tubby Rower says:
what I meant was that nothing could possibly show up that wouldn't be in the fat cross
MIKE TYSON says:
NE of the BG there is something, I'm pretty sure it's not just a grass
Tubby Rower says:
but that's still in the 21-tile boundry
MIKE TYSON says:
no way to tell if the others are anything particular though
MIKE TYSON says:
if we go for maxing food at all cost
MIKE TYSON says:
moving works on any 4+food tile
Tubby Rower says:
maxing food should be a priority
MIKE TYSON says:
on the long run, moving NE would strip us off from 2 hills, but the hills will belong to a 1st ring city anyways
Tubby Rower says:
why move NE?
Whomp says:
I'd say north
MIKE TYSON says:
north would only strip us off 1 hill but settling on a BG gives me a bad karma feeling
Tubby Rower says:
everything that the worker could reveal (except another hill) would be with the 21-tile radius of the capital if settled in place
Tubby Rower says:
I will not settle on a BG
Tubby Rower says:
I've never seen an instance where it would make sense
MIKE TYSON says:
well, say it was a BG or all cattle everywhere around
MIKE TYSON says:

Tubby Rower says:
ok maybe..
Tubby Rower says:
but for wheat never
Whomp says:
wacken said it doesn't matter
Tubby Rower says:
just cows since I like Whomp
MIKE TYSON says:
in germany, calling someone an old cow is a friendly greeting
Whomp says:
moving off a bg
Tubby Rower says:
Whomp the initial position is a regular grass
Whomp says:
ynnek wants to move to the hill lol
Tubby Rower says:
I have to go fellers...
MIKE TYSON says:
Rat too
Tubby Rower says:
should we post this conversation?
Whomp says:
sure
MIKE TYSON says:
guess we should
Tubby Rower says:
why move to a hill?
MIKE TYSON says:
for the RAR hill city bonus, 2 shields when you settle a hill town
MIKE TYSON says:
even despotic
Whomp says:
i see too much lost commerce
MIKE TYSON says:
but this isn't RaR
Whomp says:
especially if we're running to philo
Tubby Rower says:
ok saving conversation here
Whomp says:
ok

err, reading that conversation is a little funny but very hard to catch the essence of it.

Maybe I can sum it up that the agreement was to settle on the spot unless the worker that moves N onto the river BG reveals something game changing...so worker N and settle on the spot...

research set on writing of course and building is settler or warrior?

Worker N, then settle on spot if nothing changes is fine with me. We are Agr so any starting position is fine. the Settler factory can be the 2nd city if there is something better.

who is executing the turns initially???

Hi guys, sorry about the silence lately. I am now back and have also used the christmas break from mundane chores to upgrade my computer system. Now everything seems to be working fine so I am definitely up for a game of Civ now. ;)

Worker north seems to be an apropriate first move, on that we agree. I am however inclined to regard the hill SW as my primary choice for our first town. I guess the tiles just outside of our view (NE) bears the signs of deserts or FP's. But where it actually goes should be an open question until we have the new sightings from the Worker. FP have a bad habit of striking you with disease at the wrong moment, like when justr having the settler factory up and running... Hope we see some other type of food bonus in the immediate area.

After settling we need to do some serious planning, I normally use Offa's excel tool and if it is commonly known to the team that would simplify the planning process.

On another topic. How do we go about this game? How close should be settle the core?

ThERat said:
who is executing the turns initially???
I can do it, but I figure that we should discuss for at least a day...

Wotan said:

I honestly see no need to settle on the hill. the defensive bonus gained doesn't outstrip the shields lost by working a mined hill later. If we have people attacking our capital, then the game is lost.

I doubt that anyone will start an early war like TNT did last game. Most people detested them for ruining both their chances and D'nut's chances in one fail swoop.

I am more interested in getting food bonus tiles in the area of the first town. If the Worker move does not reveal any good tiles for this purpose I would gamble on going to the hill and open up a new set of tiles that could be. Also we have at least two other tiles in the area so losing one hill for production purposes is not a big deal. Besides i am not concerned with using the hill for protective purposes just to help us find a good starting spot. Getting a good settler factory is worth more than anything else in the opening stages of a game. Even losing a couple of turns moving the settler could be worth it I guess
