I'm going to revoke my vote for The American Dream under History Book stories. No offense to Tlönitte, his game was very well played and masterful but this is the Stories & Tales forum. I didn't know what to peg An Iberian Love Story under (it's listed as Descriptive in the database) so I'm switching my vote for Alexius08's story now that a precedent seems to have been established. The latter story actually has a theme and a couple additional elements that make it stand out in comparison.

Comedy:
Glory to Greece: All Trade Leads To Athens (Dhoomstriker)
MOAR cat vs hoplitejoe, The complete story (Hoplitejoe)
Lets Crack Some Heads (Lead Paint)

Narrative:
Hammer & Steel (Tycho)

History Book:
None. I'm not really a fan of these ones.

RandomLand! of course and also Babylonian Idol if I'm allowed to vote for two in one category..

Comedy:
-Mali on Earth 18 Civs (Brandon Herren) ...It was a tough choice between other BH's earth18 stories.
-Rome: Eternal Empire (Mety) It was a hard pick between this one and olaf's 6050yrs and Yoshi's destruction2. In the end i simply read much more from Eternal empire, sry Olaf and yoshi :(
-Babylonian Idol : (me) Because everyone else so far voted for their own stories

Narrative:
Hammer & Steel by Tycho
will be thinking of more later...

History book:
No Cities Left Behind (The Super Secret History of the Mongols) ( Tigranes ) Really like this one, hope to get some updates soon!!
Maybe more later.

Comedy
Glory to Greece: All Trade Leads to Athens by Dhoomstriker
Let's Crack Some Heads! by Lead Paint
Babylonian Idol by MaxWar

I'd love to nominate more than three for this category, since I think each and every comedy story we've had this year has been an absolute gem. Notable stories I'd like to have been able to have nominated: DoH2, anything by brandon.herren, MOARcat, RandomLand!, China: All Under Heaven, Rome: Eternal Empire, and my own 6,050 Years of course ;)

Narrative
The Celestial Bureaucracy by Tomorrow's Dawn
Hammer and Steel by Tycho
The Mars Chronicles by SouthernKing

Some extremely good pieces of writing poked up their heads this year along with some very good writers. These three were the ones that I thought particularly stood out.

History-Book
An Iberian Love Story by Alexius08
The Super Secret History of the Mongols by Tigranes
Rome: The Comquering Empire by Tycho

Some excellent work in this field too, and I think Vokarya also deserves a special mention, as well as Gruekiller, Tlonitte and Trexeric.
________

All in all, an excellent year's stories. Here's to 2012.
