I recently bought TOT. Big mistake! To my credit, I only bought it because I couldn't find a copy of MGE. Therefore, I would like to warn everyone that's ready to buy civ 2, avoid TOT at ALL cost!!!

You need to patch to the 1.1 version.. you can DL the patch from this site. I have Test & I like it just fine... I can go on about the beauty & depth of the Fantasy World .. but I won't bother. I will say this.. if people took the time to get familiar with it ... It would be the most heavily played version of CIV out there. If you like & appreciate Tolkien & the Lord of the Rings ..you would would like this.. as that set of books & this game use the same basic source material.

I have ToT, and I had no bugs problems since I downloaded 1.1.

Finally the graphics are good, which adds some fun to the game, and the AI is a little bit smarter.

There aren't many mp players out there, but I still like it.

And the Fantasy thingie can be really nice if you like such stuff.

Me too.

But from my expirience I know that the company that will sell it here will want to translate the Manual etc...

Which means that I will have to buy it online, or wait for aproximately a month till it comes out here.

ToT has better graphics.. it is basically the same game.. I cannot hardly play MP or Gold Edition anymore; unless I want to play the OCC games.. graphics remind me of Atari video gemes... anyhoo love the game.. have gleaned alot of good advice from the forums but I still cannot approach the level of play discussed here..

I AM OUT..KAPLA!!!

For anyone who's interested Dogberry has a circle of TOT multiplayer players so you can PM him and get his email.

TOT is actually pretty good once you get the graphics patch, but it just lacks compatibility and versatility. There's only a few scenarios I found on the net for TOT. Plus, you don't get the map editor or the scenario editor when you buy TOT.

Yeah... It's surely a big drawback from MGE...

I got ToT and the first time I tried playing it it had an all new City Screen, next time it was back to the old Civ 2 style City Screen. Hmmmm....

I was also started in the sea once, and was helpfully told that I couldn't build a City at sea. Well it wasn't through choice!

Are these the Bugs you speak of?

Some "specialist" games are done better than others..TOT was the first Civ type IP game that I ran across ( that worked ). TOT Original is basically the same damned game as MGE. It's harder to dicker with the game & make Scenarios & MODs...if you are interested in playing real people as opposed to solving a complex mathmatical formula ( playing the AI ) ..this is a positive advantage..especially when dealing with a small and already heavily fragmented player base.

I am familiar with Mick Uhl from the days of the Avalon Hill General..his name is a guarantee that I would be dealing with something that I liked.

Never played the Sci-Fi game.

I don't necessarily spend all my time worshiping at the "Holy House of Sid" ..unlike some others.

Have several of the Heros of M&M series..never installed them as they seem to be rather light weight for my tastes. If they ever do a good MP IP Master of Magic remake... I'm outa here !

I played sveral games on TOT. When you are used to the interface, it's not a bad game at all and it offers more features than Civ2 Gold. TOT looks just as bright as Civ2 Gold if u apply Kestrel's graphics patch...

if you don't have Civ2 Gold, TOT is certainly worth the money.

I don't recall trying ToT anytime, but I won't believe that any Civ product would suck. Perhaps less good than some others, but I strongly doubt it would "suck"...

TOT is fine. Missing some frills, some confusing new worlds, but the graphics are better. Plus you can play any civ scenario if you just download CivConverter found on this site.

I have ToT and play it more than I play MGE. I like haveing the extended original, where you can do something once you get that space ship to alpha Centauri. Also, alien civs are a little harder than human civs.
