Fair enough, I'm sure that my computer has crashed in the past. I really meant that I've never had a crash to a blue screen of death before.
You really think so? Even if it no worse, is it wrong to expect a working game these days? Especially from the good developers like Firaxis?
This is a great post. It jammed-packed with bad excuses.
1. "It's your problem" - Many people have clean installs with the recommended requirements and it still doesn't work. Some people have to revert back to old drivers to get the game to work. Obviously, Firaxis didn't test this game out...
It's been a month now. I downloaded v1.09 but Civ 4 still crashes my computer. Crashes. My. Computer. I've run XP for years now. Nothing, ever, ever, ever has crashed my computer. I never knew what a XP blue screen looked like before Civ 4 came around. No, I don't need to upgrade my computer...
Exactly, I don't understand the apologists on this board. You can reasonably expect a working game out of the box and this game is not that for too many people. It's not a bug here or there it's been a headache trying to get around MAJOR errors that prevent people from playing the game. We are...
Just want to bump this as it's solved my Civ 4 issues... I hope. Opened up the case and put a floor fan pointing at the processor. I've been playing Civ 4 for hours now with no problems. If you are having problems with rebooting I'd definitely give this a shot if you are desperate to play.
If this is the case then Firaxis is in for a sh!tstorm. Obviously this is happening to tons of people with legit copies of the game. I've spent hours trying to work on this problem.
Let's be fair the game is awesome if it works. It's just that they didn't test properly. Deadlines? Financial decision? It was pushed out the door for some reason. One thing is for sure, Firaxis's great reputation is taking a serious knock. 2k Games's reputation was already in the crapper though...
Sounds like close to the same system as me and the same hoops I've been jumping through to fix this game. Haven't tried changing the AGP setting though, sounds promising.
Must the Anti-Aliasing and AGP be set to 0 for the 4.12 drivers to work? I see people mentioning that they have done one or the other. I didn't change either one of those and the 4.12 still led to crashes.
Well it didn't work for me. Uninstalled the Omega drivers and installed the 4.12 drivers. I didn't reinstall Direct X after I installed 4.12 but Civ started without a problem. After 2 turns though the screen froze for a second and there was a hard reboot. I'm crushed as I thought this would fix...
