[Graphic Mod] Varietas Delectat v9.2 [civ specific unit sets]

I think you mean Internet Explorer 10/11. Windows 7/8 doesn't warn me about jack with Opera 12.

[Graphic Mod] Varietas Delectat v9.2 [civ specific unit sets]

Varietas Delecat is included in the various BUG mods, and there's definitely nothing to worry about. I imagine VD might come as an installer (.exe) and IE among other browers are stupid when it comes to downloading any EXE's as far as useless warnings go.

"The Bad Sequel": Sullla's Analysis of Civ5

I think one need only look at Amazon for some very telling info about Civ4 and Civ5...(and even Civ3). You can extrapolate all kinds of information from this. Primarily though, Civ4 and Civ3 range between 3 and 4 stars --- even if you don't count the expansions (even higher when you count...

What's the big deal about Hexagonal map grids?

Personally, I don't care for hexagonal grids for movement nor map layouts. The whole movement "distance issue" is moot to me, as it has an inherent assumption that the unit moves from the exact center of a hex (or square) tile to the exact center of an adjacent tile. With hex tiles you are...

Is Civilization 4 best game ever?

Over the years I've played games, but likely wouldn't qualify as a gamer. I don't know if I have a favorite --- I tend to gravitate towards a select few of a given genre. TBS: Archon(C64), Warlords 2, Warlords3, FFTactics (PS2), CIV4+BUG+BlueMarble: it's hard to remember what CIV was like...

"The Bad Sequel": Sullla's Analysis of Civ5

I used to play a flash game Tactics 100, basically a chess board combat pseudo-RPG combat game. Humans obviously play better than the AI, but the AI is at least competent. As well there are many chess-game AI's that can play competently. The fact that CiV's AI can't deal with combat is solely a...

    Moderator Reorganization

Here's an Example on the TC Forums. My last post was a request to the mods to split my posts to the plugin Forums. The thread it was split from - shows where the split thread is. And the newly created thread shows the Topic where it originated from.

Civ 5 criticism – looking beyond the detail

A small "dot" in the middle of octagons would be covered by the actual map. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tiling_Semiregular_4-8-8_Truncated_Square.svg

Civ 5 criticism – looking beyond the detail

Lot of good points here, that seem more reasoned/reasonable than some of the other Civ5 'complaint' threads. I'll just quote myself, as I posted in a NEWS article comment section thats somewhat disconnected from the general forum discussions.

    Moderator Reorganization

You are mistaken, the Opera forums are the most heavy-handedly moderated. And the moderation there is juvenile. Although if there's moderation "interruption" merely for the purposes of curtailing off-topic discussions. That doesn't seem to be of any benefit whatsoever. Conversation in...

Interview with Dennis Shirk on Front Towards Gamer

I haven't bought the game, and don't plan on it. At this point I don't see how it can be fixed. When news of Civ5's development first trickled out, it really sounded like there was a focus to fix issues with Civ4 and release a better game. 90%+ of what AussieLurker says sums up my...

    Copy protection in Civilization V

Thanks, I had forgotten about Elemental. Might be interesting: considering I prefer Fantasy RPG's and my favorite stages of CIV are pre-gunpowder.

    Copy protection in Civilization V

AFAIK from various gaming industry blogs/articles and discussions on slashdot, the primary goal with Copy Protection has been to inhibit outright illegal distribution of the game for 2-4+ weeks. Most of the sales will occur within the first month -- even more so within the first 2 weeks...

    Copy protection in Civilization V

I don't see how thats true. Only the most recent copy protection schemes have relied on connecting to a server. Everything in the past was: Look up a word in the manual.A Decoder Wheel.A dongle.CD KeyPossible server connect to verify Key (with multiplayer).Disk Check.Secu-Rom - more invasive...

    Copy protection in Civilization V

My concern of the copy protection is minimal. Publishers believe something is needed. And this particular option wont be so easily crackable -- which is good for the publisher, devs and if it's as unobtrusive as it seems -- good for the end user: no digging around for a CD/DVD. Yet this also...
