    The Basics?

I think the 60% rule only applies to lower level difficulties. Although I'm no expert (getting my rear-end handed to me on monarch), people who seem to be successful expand as much as possible. It seems that expansion is more important than science% because a big empire will eventually pay...

    Population Gone Wrong?

If you are ok with micromanaging, you can limit your growth by creating specialists or adjusting which tiles are worked. You can also use the governor and click on the halt city growth button if you don't like micromanaging as much. Don't forget to change things back though as you get more...

    Tough Decisions (game help)

My suggestion would be to attack Montezuma, considering your lead. In my experience, he usually just masses units. This causes him to fall behind in tech, and with your tech lead, you should handle him pretty easily. The fact that he's at war with someone else already will also hinder his...

Drafting Units And Spending Cash On Production

If you are asking how to do it once you've adopted those civics, you need to go into the city information screen and press the little buttons on the bottom right, adjacent to the build icons.

    Who do you hate most?

Tokugawa. The minute he stands a reasonable chance, he will attack, even if you were good friends just a few turns ago. Montezuma is really annoying too.

    Caste System?

Basically, if you have the Caste System civic in a city with lots of food, you can churn out great people pretty quickly (and the ones of your choice too, for the most part).

Is there a strategy that ONLY works on settler difficulty ?

never played at settler, but I can tell you right now not to get in the habit of thinking you can build all the wonders, discover all religions, etc. Once you move up in difficulty, the AI will be good enough to make things a lot more complicated.

    Friendly Attackers?

Most likely reason the AI attacks you is that you are very weak. I had this trouble in the first couple of games I played on Noble. Noble isn't too difficult though if you dedicate just one city to building nothing but military units (and also improvements like forges, ironworks, factories...

    Tips on Terraforming?

Some important points: 1. City specialization - if you are focusing on gaining great people in a city, you want a big population (for lots of specialists). You would want more farms in this case. If you need a city to help your finances, you want more cottages (eventually towns). Obviously...

    Suggestions in 1748

Representation is my favorite civic because it gives you bonus happiness and science production. I've never actually succeeded in getting to liberalism. The AI seems to really like getting that free tech. I think that if you get representation though, you can balance the missed free tech with...

    Stone is too powerful

I don't think stone is overpowered. It provides anyone who finds it an advantage, for sure, but it hasn't really affected any games I've played to this point. Like most people have said, iron is a must have. Also, late in the game, you definitely need to find a good source of oil. Without access...

    Do people use slavery

Slavery is a really good civic. I keep it on most of the game, just in case I ever need to rush something. It's got a low upkeep as well, so I don't have to worry too much about its financial effect. I usually don't need my workers to work any faster or have more specialists, so slavery suits me...

Unhealthy Cities: Oops, I Did It Again

Some other suggestions to get yourself back to a healthy city... 1. Trade - trading makes us all better off. You have to give up something, but it will be good for your civ. 2. Keep in mind those city improvements that give health for certain resources (e.g. harbors, grocers, etc.). These...

How do you attack a Fighter?

In my opinion this makes it more realistic. After all, if a fighter is garrisoned in a city, you can't just fly into that city to attack it. It makes modern warfare more difficult for sure, especially for ground assaults. But that's really how it is in the world we live in today.
