I went and documented everything like a succession game. Here are my notes:
Old habits die hard. It took me until turn 31 before I remembered I should really be documenting this game.
As of turn 31 I only have one city (founded in place), two slingers, two scouts, a warrior and a builder...
While I have not had any problems with nitor, oil has been a massive problem in my games. I have yet to find any source of oil on land (despite owning most of it).
I would not hesitate to settle a city there to get the resource. Since there is very little penalty for the number of cities you...
Since the game is turn-based, just take your time. The turns will take longer but it is because you are doing more stuff (generally a good thing).
This does not work well in multiplayer though.
I went with domination on this one. My first two games finished in culture and science victories. This may be a fun new way to play (and is probably the best way to deal with the AI).
That number can be deceiving. I was faced with a French army with a relative strength of 800 while I only had 500. My smaller more advanced units shredded the 30+ warriors that made up the ENTIRE French force. It is a good indicator of a possible attack from your neighbors.
I voted for Scythia because that was where my cursor landed. Not too concerned with who we start with, I'm just looking forward to getting back into some GOTM action.
When you first start the game (initial blue menu screen) you can select Borderless Windowed mode in the options list. You cannot change this once you start/load a game.
I think you have to hover the mouse near, but not right next to the edge of the map (not the screen). It was driving me nuts so I turned it off. Now I need to find out how to rebind the map scrolling keys on my keyboard.
This will also be the first time I did not go out to the store to get a boxed copy. While I lament the loss of the box for the shelf, I relish the opportunity to download the game in my pjs while brewing the coffee needed for the first gaming session.
I wanted to know if the game was worth my money. Due to all the footage, I was able to see several different playstyles and features and was able to make a more informed decision.
I have a few hours to kill at work each night so the lets plays help kill the time.
I will not preorder a product without seeing it in play. With all the lets-plays on YT lately, I've seen all I need to make an informed decision with my money.
Firaxis can have it (preordered yesterday).
