I have tried that and usually the other civs have 4-5 cities to my 2 and probably double the army. It just seems to me that I am moving in slow motion while they are moving double speed.

I have had a hard time not getting my ass handed to me on the prince level.
IF i start normally the CIV's seem to blow right past me early in the game. It seems to take forever to expand my civ. The only way I have found to counter this is to give myself an additional settler, 4...
I didn't realize that there were movement promotions so I stand corrected on the ships being able to outrun my ships.
But I have real questions when a fourth placed civ is able to jump 4-5 techs ahead of everyone else, upgrade their units with minimal gold and do this in 4-5 turns. No one...

I only have 2 closely saved games 1850 and 1858. So in 8 years (I think 4-5 turns) she still only has 1 galleon. She is able to upgrade all her grenadiers to sam, build 3 additional sam units, lose 2 rifleman. invade me with 1 galleon. And jump by 4 techs over...
I will have to go back and see if I have any autosaves. I played through the years from 1760 to around 1880 before I got to frustrated. Let me check though
