Regarding the Civ4 Technical Problems Article on TG Daily

Well, I'm a little bit disappointed inTG for publishing an imbalanced article like this. A lot of space is dedicated to quotes from people who have trouble, and for satatements of what allegedly isn't working right, and one lonely sentence mentions that there are also people who have no...

Which video card works without problems?

Civ4 has been working flawlessly out of the box. I'm using an ATI x700pro (256 MB).

Civ4 works great on my super cheap laptop with an ATI Card!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. :) It's great that Civ4 works on your machine, by the way. There's so much negativity on these boards, so it's good to hear some success stories.

    Firaxis: Patch coming next week

There never was a public announcement from Firaxis that there would be a patch this week. Like the others who have responded, I'd rather wait an extra few days to get a solid patch -- not a rushed patch that breaks as much as it fixes. Then again, I don't have any issues with the game, and I...

    900 Canadian Dollars is about 750 US Dollars ... not 31. :D

    Cheating AI

Why is that the best explanation? I've played quite a number of games since I got Civ4 two weeks ago, and on "noble" I have never noticed anything that made me believe the AI has cheated. If it did that commonly, there'd be more such threads, I think. I may be wrong; the AI just hasn't struck me...

    Cheating AI

If the city was built in range of a tribal hut, yes, he might have gotten a warrior. Hmm, but then again, the warrior would have been standing somewhere near by, not be right inside the city, I think? Perhaps a bug? I wiped out some civs very early when they started right next to me, and I never...

I'm having a hard time playing all the way through a game.

Oh, eek, no! That's what made me get really fed up with the SimCity series. In strategy games I like things to be logical and transparent -- I want to succeed or fail because of my skill (or the lack there of), not becaue of some completely random events that wipe out half of my army or my...

    Starting position NORTH POLE

Actually, that doesn't look too bad! Would be interesting to see how things work if you start in a peculiar spot like this. The city should be able to support itself up there (there's clam, too), and who knows what lies in the south and east? :) At least it's unlikely that the city will get a...

    Firaxis: Patch coming next week

Well, there really isn't an official statement that there WILL be a patch coming out this week. It's very likely, or Thunderfall wouldn't have posted the Firaxis email, but personally, I'd rather they take their time and release a solid patch so that we don't need another one in a few weeks ...

I'm having a hard time playing all the way through a game.

I agree. The game offers such a wealth of options for customization so that everyone should be able to find the "right settings" for their taste. For instance, I had quite a bit of fun with the "lake" maps, and I rarely ever see anyone mentioning them. Civ4's flexibility is one of its biggest...

Cannot build colonies like you did back in Civ III?

Forts are bad, I agree -- well, they would be useful if they had a zone of control. Just one or two tiles in each direction. This would have quite a bit of impact on my strategy ... and really enrich the game.

Cannot build colonies like you did back in Civ III?

I'd prefer colonies, but then people would be more likely to spam outposts, and I'm still thrilled that the city spamming of Civ3 is not working (at least not well) in Civ4. If you want a resource, put a city next to it if you can afford it, or just take out the opponent's city in whose range it...

    I've grown weak and soft...

Yes, the AI in Civ4 seems much more human-like than in prevous games. This works both ways, too. Last night, the Japanese attacked me rather unexpectedly, and in a bit of a backstabbing manner, and I found myself sitting here and yelling at the darn AI. :) I guess that's what makes the game...

I'm having a hard time playing all the way through a game.

It seems to vary a lot. I just played a "noble" game where the AI went to war all the time -- mostly with each other, and sometimes against me. This is just with the normal setting without the "aggressive" option. I've had other games where there was very little war going on, though.
