    Tips for starting colonies(if any)

Honestly I don't find colonies all that useful because they never really help you that much. It's cool to colonize an area on another continent and have a vassal there, but it's only useful for getting a resource and upping the number of incompetent war allies you have.

    Isolation Strategy?

You generally want something between 1 and 2.

    Monument - Whip or build?

I agree with the theme of this post. Because of the planning with overlap I typically don't have any need to build a monument to reach the outer rim of the BFC. If good planning dictates a good resource be in the outer rim, then I'll whip one out.

    Overlapping

Food overlap allows a lot of logistic options. For most of the game there's no reason to have a city with 3 food resources all to itself. It can't use them to grow as it hits the caps, you run out of happiness to whip, and you can't stunt growth with specs b/c there's just too much food. Do...

    Anti-Cultural Recoil

You definitely want to start as early as possible. Typically these cities are good anyway because they have a lot of wonders. Aiming to take and keep them is usually a good idea. If the cultural victory is close you will want to raze them. I've only run into the problem of having HC a...

    Attacko Method 5

Attacko is once again brilliant. Although this chooses the more abstract meta thought over the more concrete tactical genius.

Finally a winning position at emperor - Need some advice to get me over the line

Seems weird though that the people are more upset about being given a military job, than being worked to death.

    Silk Plantation

I agree with this, but you miss my admittedly poorly/not stated point. I do think that in terms of AI gold it is rare, but the AI rarely has 15 gpt available to trade, and I am not aware of any way to coerce the AI to have that much gold available to trade. The amount of hassle to fetch...

    Silk Plantation

I agree with Iranon. Settling for an extra commerce still allows you to sell the weaker currency resource, and also work better tiles. Of course, these things tend to come in big groups. I think cottage is better than plantation because a) It takes a while for the AI to have the gpt to trade...

Madrassa and Obelisk - what's the point?

AW makes priests the best specialists. They have the production of engineer, a gold, spawn Prophets who are great for shrines and good for settling, and have IMO a better bulb path than other GP.

    Fixing Saladin

It's more of a quaint novelty really. I've used it for the Burger King, and even then it doesn't have too much zest. The benefits are A) you only need masonry/BW/(preferrably Math) to do it and B) Because stone with protective gives a huge bonus to production you can turn hammers into gold...

    Rexing Problems

On Monarch or lower (not sure about higher as the penalties become restrictive) you can actually just get a bunch of scientist specialists (works well with a philo leader), and have zero cottages and just farms, and at 0% slider, have plenty of research. Cottages are definitely a huge help...

    Tech-rushing to Alphabet for trading?

True, but at Noble/Prince, the AI either has no advantage at all, or only a slight one, so you can just research whatever you want and do it more quickly to trade it.

    Tech-rushing to Alphabet for trading?

The Alphabet beeline is good for many levels, as the AI tends to give it a low priority and you can trade it for a good bit. Try the Aesthetics beeline. It tends to work well, too. Also, you don't have to go straight for it. You can get some basic techs that allow your workers to stay busy...

JBossch's random leader Deity attempt: 2

The GW is built for spy points, and everything else is only tangentially relevant. That early great spy will net you a handful of techs, which on Diety can be one of many different ones. Between that and a e.g. Aesthetics beeline, you will be near tech parity rather soon, allowing you to launch...
