Uh, what stereotypes? It's sci-fi. Sci-fi is always breaking norms, that's what it does.
Having some unique gender/race combo should not be a stand-in for interesting factions and people.
Germany: get rid of the Panzer. Replace it with a UB representative of German production or intellectualism. The UA needs to be scrapped and reworked altogether.
Japan: scrap the Zero. Replace with UB. There's more to Japan than just war-war-war.
IMO, those are the two most pressing ones...
I built it turn 67 as Rome on Epic speed.
Things that helped: I picked up Mining from a ruin. I used Liberty to spring a worker who chopped away. My capital was surrounded by plains/production type terrain.
I think the AI gets messed up on occasion. Last game Elizabeth went OCC for inexplicable reasons. However, London was huge and she was actually a very relevant power for most of the game. On the other hand, Washington look over the entire other continent by games end. This was not a total swoop...
None of them stand out for being intelligent like Catherine, Hannibal, Yaqob or I believe Mehmet II did in Civ4. The only one who seems to have a definitive personality is Ramses for obnoxiously building every single wonder there is on the higher difficulties.
Germany and the Ottomans have "ticky tacky" UA's because they're completely unreliable for many reasons. Playing Pangea? Ottoman UA is useless. Playing archipelago? German UA is very likely to be useless. You have to play with Barbs to get any use of it, just as well. But wait, there's more...
Ottomans and Germans are too ticky-tacky with their UA's and have generally late-ish game UU's.
I think Greece is the best simply because they take the least effort to win with, IMO.
Civ4 -- which IMO was more broken than Civ5 upon release -- did not need DLC to spurn two expansions.
Civilization is a strong series. It doesn't need DLC to remind itself of this.
If you want to see paid off reviews just look at Empire: Total War. I stopped subscribing to PCGamer because they on numerous occasions could not look more "paid off" and were ridiculously off the mark -- always with "top tier" games. As for DLC... If you bought all the DLC right now, how much...
Perhaps a war-activated UA? Something like when at war Great People production +50%; or hammer-production +10% etc. The UA needs changing, though. It's either overpowered, letting you steamroll early, or totally useless. Ottomans need a different one as well as they certainly have the most...
I would take it back instantly, but definitely be anticipating the expansions because Civ5 has a strong foundation, they just screwed everything else up on constructing an actual, enjoyable game.
