Back in the old days of Civ 1, every victory was scored. How well you accomplished another victory condition added to the score (like conquering the world sooner, or sending more colonists to Alpha Centauri). There was something about seeing your civilization's major accomplishments summarized...
Does the answer to the question change at lower difficulty levels?
For example, a diety player is always going to invest heavily in military early on, both for survival and to grab nearby settlers.
A player doing an optimization run on Prince, on the other hand, might outperform other...
I'm 35 now, and I've been playing since I was 12 or 13 years old. At the time I was captivated by the idea of building something glorious, that no one had ever done before. "You could be different," the text on the game box promised after describing the ruins of once great real-world...
OP, I found this post by @Victoria to be helpful in understanding how to to use naval melee + ranged units together to achieve strategic goals. The specific game described is Deity / England / True Starting Locations Earth map, but the principles should apply elsewhere.
I'm a big fan of War Carts. They're super cheap, great for stealing settlers and grabbing a strong position early on, and then they upgrade to knights which hit very hard in the medieval era. Terrain permitting, you could do worse than churning out War Carts and making a beeline for Stirrups...
I think what you are describing is one of the key differences between the two games. In Beyond Earth, the faction leaders are political leaders (different nations launching similar ships). In Alpha Centauri, they are ideological leaders - all colonists were on one ship, and each colonist chose...
I like the approach used in the previous post - defining the maximum and minimum possible values and going from there. Gold vs. Production is well suited for this, since gold can substitute for production at a set rate (more or less).
My follow-up question is, can we identify approximate...
I just purchased the game on Steam and I can't find any of the historical maps that are supposed to come with the game. I just see the two map scripts ("A New World" and the Caribbean one). Has anyone else had this problem or know how to solve it?
I think that it makes sense, though I concede that my opinion is no more valid that yours. Show me two "Beyond Earth" players and I'll show you two different interpretations of the affinities.
Slightly off topic, but this sounds amazing! Imagine a society that so despises Old Earth history, it ends up letting old earth history define it (and therefore remains stuck in Purity).
For example: "We need to prove that we can beat sexism before we upload ourselves into genderless robots...
You don't need to guess: There literally are canon affinities for the different leaders in the game's XML files (or more accurately, a preference for certain victory types, which has the same effect).
For example, Hutama is almost equally happy with Purity or Harmony victories (scores of 9 and...
