Here's my experiences with the Civ's I've played.
Japan: I really like the factories and half time for 3 districts is really powerful. Their UU comes a little late but is decent. Also the fact that missionaries/apostles get + combat strength on coast is great. Overall very powerful but have to...
Based on this list
Based on this list the most overrated ones are
1. Statue of liberty (by the time you get this production what's really left to build that you need).
2. Chicen Itza it's very similar to Taj Mahal (+ 4 happiness extra golden age vs longer golden ages ) yet it's in the...
Celts.
-The UA is great for getting a religion and benefits you the more cities you have strongly encouraging a REX strategy.
-UU is great at helping a religion and defending you from early attacks and barbs. It's great because its an hut upgrade from the warrior and spears don't require...
Hard to tell what you did wrong without a little more info. But here are my stabs in the dark.
1.Sounds like you gave up on faith a little too early. Although your own religion isn't essential having faith to buy GWAM's is very important. Also if China has a great religion and Ottomans have a...
Commerce (Medieval Era)
-7 Commerce Opener: Boosts Gold output in the Capital by 25%. Unlocks Big Ben. Big ben is great opener is only ok
- 4 Wagon Trains (leads to Entrepreneurship): +2 Gold from all your Land Trade Routes. Generally want to get the ships if you can but can be ok in a pangea...
Well if social policies stayed the same it would pay for itself after 10 policies and be a neutral policy at 22 (12 to get there +10). However, since social policies cost increase the effective cost of taking the policy increases to the point if you have 50 cities and after 17 policies it...
I really don't see why people are rating ethics above a 2.
Using this chart (http://civilization.wikia.com/wiki/Mathematics_of_Civilization_V) and a 4 city tall opening. Assuming ethic is your 12th policy (I can't imagine it being an earlier) after 17 additional polices ethics saved you a...
Piety (Ancient Era)
6 - Piety Opener: Completely outshines Asthentics and Honor's 50% production bonus but still no great.
7 - Organized Religion: Very strong with wide empires
8 - Mandate of Heaven: 20% more faith effectively which is great.
7 - Theocracy (requires Organized Religion...
It's possible but on higher difficulties if another civ is going for a cultural victory and is wonderspamming it becomes a lot easier to deal with them with war. I won a cultural game as morocco on immortal mostly peacefully (albeit I did have one modern era but surprisingly there was no runaways)
Tradition (Ancient Era) (53)
8- Tradition Opener: Much stronger than Lib opening as border expansion is painfully slow without this.
7 - Aristocracy:
7 - Legalism (leads to monarchy/landed elite): Unfortunately harder to time now to get the more expensive buildings still a good policy.
7...
Actually they upgrade to riflemen (they broke the standard Pikeman->lancer path)
It's hard to judge most powerful UU because it depends on map type, when you like to stage your war(s).
My criteria for a great UU is:
1.Built between classical and renaissance (never got the hang of ancient...
Brazil hands down. Go freedom for longer golden ages, 34% tourism boost and foreign legion which upgrade into 6 free Pracinha. Work like hell to grab international games start a golden age and enjoy 234+% tourism boost. After which faith buy all the great musicians and call it a day.
Poland is a superb jack of all trades master of none. The best thing about Solidarity is that it works with any victory condition and allows you to get the key policies earlier ( I don't think the extra policies are that big of a deal since there generally isn't a full tree worth of stuff that...
It's pretty good on bog standard tiles but becomes incredibly strong on desert hills (with iron or sheep). It turned my hard game into an easy one fast. It isn't too hard to get a good petra/kabash setup with liberty (free settle on optimal position and GE too build it) but requires that the AI...
